I thoroughly enjoyed this Short story. I was emersed in a world of dark grasping, biting, shambling and screaming world of zombies. And up against them a motley band from people lead by a man Howie who used to work at Tesco's . who become a sort of urban army. Running and fighting the zombie hoard. Their is gore, terror and humor. And I was captivated from the word go.
Yes I would recommend this story to a friend.
A short story that stands alone, you don't need to have read the other books in the series to understand and enjoy the story.
Having read all the books in this series so far this audio story bought the characters to life and made them real as people.
I just love this team! I've cried and laughed out loud as I've listened. Such great characters brought to life by the narrator.
The forts are know as Palmerstone's Follies. You can see them from Portsmouth several of them are in the Solent...
Big commuter so can listen to a couple of books per week, love horror and the odd Biography
I read this before i read the series, its a great insight to the series of books.
It made me buy the whole set and devour it in a few weeks!!!!!!
While this is an excellent introduction to the team, it cant prepare you for just how good a series this is.
I cant recommend this authors works enough, this series is simply the best one around. Don't be fooled into thinking its your run of the mill zombie series, its so so much more. And for me restarted my love affair with books. Yes its got zombies, blood and gore aplenty, but its got heart, morals and many laugh out loud moments. The author is scarily good at characterisation, so much so that we care deeply for the team in these books, they become almost corporeal, and yet again Mr Haywood you break my fragile little heart into pieces with how you make Meredith come to life.
I have read all of the series, but will still be buying them on audio book, perfect companions on long drives.
Originally, I passed on this series because the first book wasn't very long and I wanted more story time for my credit. I downloaded the first book before this free story was over without any credits left cause I couldn't wait to get started. Great story, great performance. Well played Haywood, well played.
"Fresh, British, dark humour!"
Really good, didn't expect much but was pleasantly surprised. Main group of characters are entertaining, banter like a group of British Army Squaddies and add a real human 'gritty' feel. Very british so id strongly recommend this to any zombie fans in the UK as i think you will relate to the language. Ive bought the series and am looking forward to listening to it! Thankyou!
"listened for a taste"
I got this to see if I might like the series. entertaining and the narrator is really good. so series here I come.
"Listen to Books 1-3 FIRST!!!!"
Yes, this book is well worth an additional listen just to get an idea of who Howie and Dave will meet in the next books.
The thing I like best about this story is the introduction of new characters. I also liked the fact that I got a quick peak of who is still fighting along side Howie and Dave.
He brings the characters to life. I love how he changes his pace from when he is telling the story to when he is narrating in first person. It helps distinguish between the dialog and the story.
I would rename the book: The Undead: Deleted Scenes Days 8-13
These are deleted scenes AFTER book 3. I listen to all three books BEFORE I listen to this book and it made much more sense. These deleted scenes include characters from the first 3 books and characters that will be introduced in the later books.
The main word is scene. This is not a short story, it is not an episode, it is an introduction scene. A deleted scene at that. It was okay, a bit cute and a lot British. Several gay jokes, which I found weird, since I thought most of England was you know, a little light in the loafers. A big part of the scene was taken up with each individual introducing himself. Before that we got a list of characters and the weapons they use and there was a slaughter part to show how they use the weapons.
I was intrigued that there is a Zombie series out where they actually go out with the sole purpose of killing Zombies. I have read so many Zombie books and watch Zombie series and movies, and I always wonder, why are they not out there purposely clearing the area. If the first book in the series goes on sale (and the $4.95 first in a series sale should be any day now) then I will give it a try. This Scene did not sale me on the series.
"Convinced me to start the series"
I enjoyed the short story So now I am buying the first book in the series. Good tactic by the author and audible
Felt like I was right in the midst of what was taking place. The narrator did a great job. Strong story line that moved along at the perfect pace.
Yes, I would recommend this book to a friend, because I thought it was interesting book to listen to.
Everything, I love scary spooky stories.
"It's good enough to be in the books"
I wish this were in book 9 as it was written. it's good to hear Dan Morgan reading the story again.
did not like the voice through some parts,
typical zombie story small group of savage surviors that begin to be overwhelmed with zombies but then .........
