    "Lacklustre"

The description of the monsters involved in this series is very good but the plot is pretty lacklustre.
The best part of this short prologue is the narrator. Imogen Church is brilliant, though she does mispronounce some words occasionally, she manages to inject menace into the words. She makes this much better than if I'd read it.

    "intriguing"

the story rook me back to the Darren Shan novels I read as a child, those of vampires and demons. descriptions of beings that show an imagination I always found interesting, but rarely seen actualised. a good taster.

Although abstract, the descriptive narrative is very good. I would like to listen to Book 1 after this.

    "Not for me."

I'm not going to criticise, especially as it didn't cost me anything. I just wasn't drawn into the story, nor make want me to read any further into the series.

"In retrospective I'm sorry I bothered"
Would you try another book written by Edward Cox or narrated by Imogen Church?

No to Cox tried 2 one was painless but not very interesting (Relic Guild) one was a car crash atrocity I'm unwilling to see if 3rd time lucky especially as this is the latter story so he appears to be getting worse. Church I'd listen to again I'd like to hear her with better material to work with

Would you ever listen to anything by Edward Cox again?

    Not from choice

Did Imogen Church do a good job differentiating each of the characters? How?

    There's only 1 character

You didn’t love this book--but did it have any redeeming qualities?

    It was over with quickly

    Any additional comments?

It's full of jargon, undeveloped concepts and unanswered questions which would be a good thing if any of it was interesting enough to make me care about the character (there's only 1) or the answers instead I just wanted it to stop, it was like someone force fed a 12 year old sandman comics and Moorcock stories till their mind threw up and then wrote out the vomit

    "Loved it!"

This is a free short audiobook story which features as the prologue in the written book.

This is again narrated by Imogen Church. I love her voice, it is melodic and she has the ability to bring the characters to life.

In this short story, we are introduced to "The Woodsman", who is a demon living in the desolate lands of the Retrospective. However, he may have been an Aelfir, loyal to the Genaii before/during the war which saw the human settlement of Labrys Town become isolated and he became a demon. He has an active role in The Cathedral of Known Things, the second book in The Relic Guild Trilogy that this snippet comes from. In this story, which is told through his eyes, we get to see the savagery and brutality that he lives with on a day to day basis. We follow him as Fabian Moor, a Genaii, makes contact with him. I love this series, the world building and character development is extraordinary.

Some people may find themselves slightly confused as to what this short story has to do with the main plot line, but as I said, he has an active role in the second book. Who he was/is remains a mystery, but I am hoping to find out when the third and concluding book, The Watcher of Dead Time is released.

Edward Cox has written an intriguing short story that introduces a new character into the world he created. I love his fast paced writing style, and the flow of the story was wonderful; it kept me hooked. He has a firm fan in me.

Due to scenes of violence and gore, I do not recommend this book for younger readers under the age of 15. However, I highly recommend this book if you love science fiction and dark fantasy genres. - Lynn Worton

    "Uninspiring"
Do you think FREE SHORT STORY: Champion of Dead Time needs a follow-up book? Why or why not?

This didn't catch my interest. I found it confusing. The main character, (if you could call him a character) was cutting up a maggot and them someone came and spoke to him. All very confusing.<br/>I won't be buying the book. Perhaps a different excerpt may have worked better.
