Summary

Emily Baxter’s dream life turns into a waking nightmare the day the red rain falls. Like a biblical plague, the scarlet downpour spreads a hideous virus that demolishes life in New York City, the nation, and the world. Suddenly the last soul in an annihilated metropolis - and possibly on Earth - the onetime newspaper reporter must learn to scavenge, survive...and plan for a future of utter solitude.

Then, from far-flung Alaska, another living voice reaches out, and Emily grasps at her only glimmer of hope. But she may be even less alone than she thinks. The world is in the midst of a strange and frightening transition; something that fell with the red rain is remaking Earth in its own alien image.

Now, Emily alone will bear witness to the terrifying new evolution - and risk her life to outrun it, for the sake of the future and in the name of all that is human.

First-rate enjoyable story

I have not read an extinction story before and found this to be excellent. We follow Emily Baxter day by day. We see her everyday life, for a day, before the Blood rain falls and the virus takes affect.
The description of her feeling and the events around what happened to her policeman boyfriend were well described. We watch as the virus overtakes the city and she realises she is alone.
From other peoples reviews it is obviously a love it or hate it book and I am on the love it side.

For apocalypse cyclists everywhere

It was an enjoyable listen for the most part. The main characters acceptance of the end of the world was was similar to my reaction to running out of milk! The fascination with bicycles is a new twist....

Edge of the seat stuff

This audio book was fab, I am not usually a fan of the American accent's to be honest, but Emily Beresford's accent wasn't too bad. So I listened to the whole book. I was pretty scared all the way through it if i'm being honest, I love sci-fi stuff always have, what a great story I am hoping that Paul Anthony jones has a follow up to this. I recommend this audio book wholeheartedly.
