A new monster emerges.
Newly christened as the leader of Delta Force Team Ghost, Master Sergeant Joe Fitzpatrick arrives in Normandy over 70 years after Allied Forces joined the fight against the Nazis. The war to free survivors and eradicate pockets of adult Variants and their offspring is underway by the European Unified Forces. But as the troops push east, rumors of a new type of monster spread through the ranks. Fitz and his new team quickly realize that the fight for Europe might be harder than anyone ever imagined.
They thought the war for America was over, but the war, for some, has just begun.
Back in the States, Captain Reed Beckham and Dr. Kate Lovato are settling into a new life on Plum Island. Across the United States, the adult Variants have all been wiped out, and the juveniles are on the run. But survivors soon realize there are other monsters at home, and they may be human.

This has got to be the best series of books I have ever read, listened to, owned and heard of. They're absolutely impossible to put down and I had to listen to each book all in one go. I found myself really caring about the characters and when one died (not telling you who) I actually cried, that's how well written these books are. Nicholas Sansbury Smith is an amazing author and for anyone who says Bronson Pinchot is a dull or monotone reader, please stick with it as he gets much, much better, he absolutely gets into the books and really brings them to life. The best end of the world full of nasties books I have ever read, and I read a hell of a lot.
One of the best books I have ever bought the hole blot of the extinction books are brilliant the whole set of the books are just brilliant
"The saga continues! Maybe forever."
We were misled into believing that the 6th novel, Extinction Aftermath, was the series end. Earlier we were led to believe that the 5th novel, Extinction End, was the series end. Now we find out that Extinction Aftermath really should be titled Extinction Continuation because at the end we find out that the series and the extinction continues with Extinction War.
I'm through with this series! It has been great and exciting listening. But it has gone on too long and worn out its welcome. It's a nice collection of six 5 star apocalyptic/post apocalyptic novels with superb narration. Its a bit like Jeffrey Archer's Clifton Chronicles which was originally to be a trilogy but turned into an 84 hour seven book series.
Warning: Novels in this series MUST be listened to in order because each builds on the story as each finishes in a cliffhanger situation.
Love this series! Hits the floor running and comes back to all my favorite characters. Bronson Pinchot nails it again with his stellar narration. His cadence and tempo keep you on the edge of your seat!
"Best series I have ever read"
I can not wait for book 7
Once you start this series you can't put it down
"more terrifying than what we’ve heard before"
Extinction Aftermath (The Extinction Cycle Book 6) by Nicholas Sansbury Smith is well worth the wait! Not only do we see Delta Force Team Ghost’s Master Sergeant Fitz take lead but he helps to storm the beach in Normandy to help eradicate the European Variants that have been left to grow, mutate and become even more deadlier than the ones in the US.
Beckham and Horn are in retirement and not really enjoying it. So when President Gringhold calls upon them for a special project, they jump at the opportunity to re-engage. There’s another new bad-ass guy in the US hoping to take down the fragile government and doesn’t really care about the recovery of the US. Time will only tell who is worse – the Variants or him!
The new monsters in Europe are … well, more terrifying than what we’ve heard before. This book is particularly gruesome and pulls on the heartstrings and ripping them out. If you love horror and Team Ghost – this is the book for you. This is not for the squeamish or soft-hearted.
Smith is a vivid storyteller that describes everything in rich detail eking out each terrifying moment. His characters are fully developed – even the ones that have a brief appearance. Action packed and riveting. This tells the story of what happens in the US afterwards and what happens in Europe when there is no coordination of efforts.
I enjoyed listening to Bronson Pinchot. He is a wonderful narrator capturing the character traits of each character and making them come alive with tone, and excitement. Mr. Pinchot makes the book come alive as only a top-notch narrator can. His tone is calming but when he speeds up and adds in the excited emotions, it only gets better.

Great beginning to a new chapter in the ongoing war against the Variants. As Fritz heads to Europe to assist in the fight against the Variants, he is unaware of the new species of Variants(many, many new species) that has mutated beyond what even they could imagine and Europe may already be lost before he arrives. Beckham is about to learn that there is no such thing as a safe zone as a new enemy rises determined to kill and destroy any who stand in his way, including releasing the deadly virus again just to prove his point. And Lt Davis is doing what she does best; Kicking ass and taking names and this time her actions or inactions may very well decide the future of humans in the Continental US.
Although the battles are spread across the country and world they all have a one thing in common and NSS has blended their stories/struggles seamlessly. And as usual the cliff hanger leaves you gritting your teeth, or in my case a very loud ARRRRGGGG!!! Definitely another winner.
This book keeps you on edge. We'll written and narrated. Can't wait for the next book.
Well done. One of his best novels in this series. A reader's delight. Cant wait for next installment.
"Bringing back the action"
Definitely right up there with the best of them.
He definitely brings the story to life in a way I don't always get from narrators. Its nice to have someone who can properly do different voices and characters, and who reads at a comfortable cadence.
Really hard to beat Fitz. He's the kind of guy you wish you could be. Fights against adversity and fights against the apocalypse.
"Noooooooooooooooooooo NOT radiation!!!!!"
Not to give the plot away, but NOOOOOOOOOOOO! I love the maniacal characters. I thoroughly enjoy this series and waiting for book 7!
************ Spoilers if you have not read the books don’t read my review***********
There was another reviewer who said he “was done” with this series and I have to say so am I. The series started out good, and the story was ok. I do tend to read a lot of virus/zombie dystopian apocalypse types books. But to have the exact scenario play out two or three times with the same characters. A new bio-weapon to fight the monsters, oh but wait we can’t deploy it because later we find out the cure is worse than the disease. Even the baddie is a carbon copy of the bad guy before; oh it's his brother.
For once I wanted Beckham and Horn just to go out swinging, maybe move the whole plot to Europe. But Jesus how many times does the military execute a strike and have it backfire. Operation Liberty, Operation Blah blah blah.
I am going to finish the series, cause I am not a quitter, but if you want to read a book about operators and how they would fight in a post-apocalyptic world do yourself a favor and read Arisen by Michael Fuchs. Similar story, but written much better.
