Summary

Long-listed, Audible.com Best of the Year, 2007

Long-listed, Audible.com 100 Audible Essentials, 2007

Audie Award winner, 2008

NOW A MAJOR MOTION PICTURE directed by Denis Villeneuve, starring Timothée Chalamet, Zendaya, Rebecca Ferguson, Javier Bardem, Josh Brolin, Austin Butler, Florence Pugh, Dave Bautista, Christopher Walken, Léa Seydoux, Stellan Skarsgård, and Charlotte Rampling

Set on the desert planet Arrakis, Dune is the story of the boy Paul Atreides, who would become the mysterious man known as Muad'dib. He would avenge the traitorous plot against his noble family—and would bring to fruition humankind's most ancient and unattainable dream.

A stunning blend of adventure and mysticism, environmentalism and politics, Dune won the first Nebula Award, shared the Hugo Award, and formed the basis of what is undoubtedly the grandest epic in science fiction. Frank Herbert's death in 1986 was a tragic loss, yet the astounding legacy of his visionary fiction will live forever.

Enjoyable story!

I liked the story, and the actors really made the book come to life!

The only negative, is that I at timed had a hard time following the story line. It felt like the first book spoke about new people, places and things with little to no explanation, made made sense later in the story. Also at times the different chapters jump to other places l with little explanation, so I felt I had to make sense of the situation before I could understand where we had jumped...

But overall an enjoyable book and story. I would listen to it again, and maybe some things would make more sense!

Stunning science fiction

Introduced a new world built from imagination skilfully described and populated with powerful characters and, of course, giant worms! Excellent.

Amazing story that builds and builds

Loved the story and the performance overall, though the main narrator would put on a high-pitched, and "weak" voice for Jessica which I found unnecessary, irritating, and undemining of her strength.

Beautifully narrated teling of a classic...

The narrator well captures the narrative weight and epic sweep of events portrayed, whilst injecting tangibility - and even humour - into the oftenweighty prose, whilst displaying clear understanding of the rich mythology. It is a very strange decision on the part of the producers to bring in such a talented voice cast...and then barely use them (leading to confusion - until you get used to it - when one moment an actor's voice is in your ear and the next, that of the narrator reading the same character) - surely using one consistent voice, or a cast of players should be a binary decision? Apart from the Princess Irulan, most of the others fall away. That said, l loved the narrator's Stilgar, which joyously captures the rogue leader's cheeky gravitas perfectly. I also found his pronunciation of 'Chani' a little odd and slightly off-putting. But these are really just niggles, it is a fantastic piece of work.

Captivating

I lost sleep in an attempt to hear the end, not sure if it’s the way it’s written or the setting but I sense great wisdom within yet mind too narrow to comprehend.

Amazing, love every minute

Thrilled from start to finish. Looking forward for the next part of the journey. The unrevealed of the story is breathtaking.

Fantastic story, gripping turns!

I very much enjoyed the mystical combined with the sci-fi in this book! The voice acting is great and really distinguishes each character, I would highly recommend it!
