What did you like most about Dead Mech?

More than once I went to buy this and changed my mind. Finally I took the plunge and OMG. Loved it. I've really had enough of Zombies and simply wanted a MECH book. Well, you still get zombies, but they are so frickin cool that I got past it.

What was one of the most memorable moments of Dead Mech?

A revelation re a killing. Say no more!

Have you listened to any of Julie Hoverson’s other performances? How does this one compare?

    No but I will do

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

No. I want to savour every chapter!

    Any additional comments?

    I love Shiner!

    Story
    "Worth a punt."
Is there anything you would change about this book?

I would make the book shorter. towards the end I felt like the story started to drag out a little and that it could have been condensed more.

Would you recommend Dead Mech to your friends? Why or why not?

I don't think MY friends would enjoy this kind of book but certainly many others will.

Would you listen to another book narrated by Julie Hoverson?

I think that this book was a challenge to narrate as it had so many scene changes in it. Julie was able to give each character a distinct personality and really brought the characters to life. The long pauses were slightly irritating at times.

Was Dead Mech worth the listening time?

I think if the book was reduced by maybe two hours it would certainly be worth the listening time.

    Any additional comments?

Thanks Jake Bible, this will not be the last book of yours I'll read.

    "Great story!"

Great story, at first I was a little irritated by the short paragraphs that switch from scene to scene but soon got used to it!

What made me laugh was one of the characters was called Bisbey which is my name! Made me chuckle never heard my surname in anything!

Worth a listen got love the twists!

"A fantastic twist on the Zombie Genre"
Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

Loved this book, a great new twist on the zombie genre. Great characters, I would guess Mr Bible has a intelligent and strong better half as he writes his women characters like that, they aren't just beautiful fillers, whos only purpose is to be "beautiful" they are written just as heroically as the men. they don't sit around waiting for men to rescue them. Harlow is a great character in particular. I totally have a girl crush on her.

What did you like best about this story?

How he can make several tons of metal cute is beyond me, but he does, Stomper :) The Rookie arc of the story was also very good.

Have you listened to any of Julie Hoverson’s other performances? How does this one compare?

I havent yet, but i have downloaded the next book in the series.

Did you have an emotional reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

Its testament to Mr Bibles talent that he can make you feel both emotions.

"Great story... Great writer... Ruined by Narrator"
This book wasn’t for you, but who do you think might enjoy it more?

Deaf people who can't read in beta.

What did you like best about this story?

The story, plot, writing were EXCELLENT. Kudos to the author!!!

Who would you have cast as narrator instead of Julie Hoverson?

ANYBODY. Bobcat Goldthwaite? Fingernails on a chalkboard? Etc etc etc

What reaction did this book spark in you? Anger, sadness, disappointment?

Annoyance... If the story wasn't so good I wouldn't have tolerated the crappy and completely inappropriate narrator. Who picked this incompetent barely literate verbal butcher?

    Any additional comments?

This narrator had two or three characterizations- Inappropriately inflected bimbo who made everything sound like a trampy pick up line designed to flirt... Screeching lifelong smoker who was constantly trying to keep diarrhea at bay... And a dim witted sounding male and female voice. Even using effects on her voice (which many REAL voice artists DONT) it still sucked out loud with a megaphone. This lady shouldn't be allowed to read to prisoners for fear of a civil rights violation. Cruel and unusual punishment that they paid for with time and I blew a credit when I should have read beta... Too terrified to see if they made the same talent mistake on the next book, but I'm enthralled with the story. In itself is genius, unfortunately killed by the narrator. Oye...

"A new Twist to an Old Story"

Jake Bible has become one of my favourite authors. First he got me hooked on his 'Z Burbia' series which is my favourite in the zombie genre. But now I discover his 'Dead Mech' series. I'm not sure which one he wrote first, but the Dead Mech series is a much better read than a audio book. The narrator just has too many voices, to many characters to do on her own. This would have been much better with multiple narrators. However, in saying that I still loved the audible version! It delivered with enough interesting ideas to keep me glued.

The story is a long one, over 16 hours. This seems to be rather unusual now days. Even more unusual was that the speed of the narration was not really able to be sped up any more than 1.25x speed without making it difficult to listen too. So you do really get your money's worth in terms of $per/hour.

    "Comic Book Story"

The story itself is a comic book "What If?" combination of Mech and Zombies. If that sounds like it's up your alley, you'll enjoy the ride.

Julie Hoverson is a great narrator and she handles multiple characters well but this novel may have benefited from a less-nuanced, more gritty tone.

"A mad thrill ride through a badass world!"
What made the experience of listening to Dead Mech the most enjoyable?

The never let you go, never let you rest thrill ride nature of the story.

What was one of the most memorable moments of Dead Mech?

The "oh shit" moment when the real plot reveals itself.

What about Julie Hoverson’s performance did you like?

Her enthusiastic descriptions of carnage and gore made the whole thing feel just that much more sociopathic... Which is fitting for this bunch of characters.

If you could take any character from Dead Mech out to dinner, who would it be and why?

Stomper... Because he just needs a hug.

    Any additional comments?

I have read this book twice already, once as an e-book and once in paperback. Listening to it brought the whole thing together nicely. I have become a big fan of the author and this book decidedly started it. If you don't want to read or listen to a story about giant mechs fighting zombies... Some of whom are in giant mechs... Then stay away. If that idea seems even slightly fun then sit back and hold on tight!

This book wasn’t for you, but who do you think might enjoy it more?

Males between the age of 13 and 25 who enjoy reading comic books will also like Dead Mech. Not knocking this demographic. I was in it once (years ago) but for those of us who have gotten a little more salty it runs a little too much like a Saturday morning cartoon (and who remembers those?).

    Any additional comments?

This is likely a great book for it's target audience. Its audience is probably males between the age of 13 and 25 who enjoy reading comic books. If you are in this demographic you will probably enjoy Dead Mech. Julie Hoverson gives the narration a good shot but really seems to have been miscast. Most of the characters are male and though she tries, most of them come off sounding like tweens. I would like to hear her narrate something else . I also, usually, like Jake Bible's work and thoroughly enjoyed his Z-Burbia series but Dead Mech falls short for those of us who are slightly more seasoned.
