Abridged

This version, while well narrated, quite significantly abridged. Unclear when purchased on the store page.

Awesome story from an inspirational scientist

Carl Sagan spent his life trying to engage ordinary people with science. "Contact" conveys the passion, imagination and dedication of scientists with the overwhelming sense of awe that comes with new discovery. Highly recommended.

If only the film was as good as the book

I’ve watched the film of Contact many times, but the book is so much better.

The ending to this book is much better than the film!

Abridged!

Hadn’t realised I’d purchased an abridged version … it would probably have been much better in full but, although disappointing, the overall listening experience was fine.

A Wonderful Surprise!

Having been in love with the movie since I was a child, I can't believe I've only just got around to reading the novel!
Although it's a short book compared to many novels I've read, it's got a great pace to it, and even though there is a lot of scientific speak (I'm not the sharpest tool in the box lol) I still understand what is being said.
I absolutely love this story and Jodie Fosters performance is so wonderful! She absolutely captivated me in the movie and she's done it again whilst narrating this, she was the perfect choice to record this audiobooks.
For those of us that are fascinated by the wonders of the universe and the longing to literally make Contact with another civilization, this is a beautiful novel to scratch that itch... Let's hope we don't have to wait too much longer before Contact is made 💙
Well done on a wonderful journey Mr Sagan, you are truly missed!!! 😞💙💙

Even better than the film

Great story, well read and the differences with the film add to this story. I’m biased, l love the film but now the book is an even better story.

Fascinating

Very impressed with the whole storyline. Out of most science fiction , this gives the sense of real possibility and credibility. Very interesting and captivating. Very well read by Jodie

Carl Sagan at his finest!

I’ve not read or listened to this story before but I’ve always wanted to. As a fan of Sagan’s writing in science, I was sure this would be brilliant. I was not disappointed! This story leaves you wondering what could be out there and wishing that what’s written in this book was actually real.

Having Jodie Foster narrate it was perfect (seeing as she was the lead in the film adaptation) and she does a fine job. Her voice fits the tone of this book perfectly.

My one problem (and it’s a small problem) is that there are a lot of sound effects added alongside Foster’s narration which can be a little jarring at times. But other than that, this was a wonderfully put together audiobook and well worth the listen if you’re looking to get lost in the imagination of one the worlds most incredible minds!
