Summary

With Wizard's First Rule and seven subsequent masterpieces, Terry Goodkind has thrilled readers worldwide with the unique sweep of his storytelling. Now, in Chainfire, Goodkind returns with a novel of Richard and Kahlan, the beginning of a sequence of three novels that will bring their epic story to its culmination.

After being gravely injured in battle, Richard awakes to discover Kahlan missing. To his disbelief, no one remembers the woman he is frantically trying to find. Worse, no one believes that she really exists, or that he was ever married. Alone as never before, he must find the woman he loves more than life itself....if she is even still alive. If she was ever even real.

Critic reviews

"Bond's somewhat understated style and relaxed, steady pace keep the story moving and help listeners sustain interest from start to finish. The characters' secrets and political maneuverings are in good hands with Bond." ( AudioFile)

1 book dragged into 3 books...

Every scene is dragged out way more than we are used to from his other books. Ir feels like he had to make one book in to three.
The narrator is very uneven in the soundlevel. Sometimes it is way too loud, sometimes almoest a whisper.

Not the best

A bit too focused on the love story between Richard and Khalan. This is the first book in the series I got bored with at times. I know its the first part of the final trilogy of the story. I just hope the next installment gets better

Frustrating

Another good episode in the series. I like it more than the previous, few, best since faith of the fallen. It is a little frustrating, as Richard runs all over the place trying to find answers, but I guess that's just the way that Richard feels too.

My favourite story since part 1

Excellent performance. The narrator captured all the characters really well and the story was gripping from start to finish

Back from the brink

After the last book, The Naked Empire, I was ready to give up on the sword of truth series.

Two years later and nothing left to listen to but
Chainfire which I had purchased at the same time as the last book. I decided to give it one last chance.
WE'RE BACK IN BUSINESS!
Terry Goodkind has completely pulled it back and my interest has returned. I eagerly look forward to the next.

Very long winded

If like me you have made it this far into the series you probably feel pretty invested in the story. But I must say, its getting rather long winded and there are rather alot of monologues that you could do without sitting through. I find myself thinking “just get on with it” as a chapter that could be brief and snapping lasts hours and has me zoning out about whats really being said. Bit disappointing really!
