This is the endgame - and it's not going well.
The battle to keep the undead tide from the walls of London is lost. Africa is a deadly hall of mirrors, leaving Alpha team riven with dissension and doubt. And the one man who might save the world is crashing to Earth half a world away. Only our greatest warriors can walk through this fire.
Betrayal. Chaos. Courage. Cataclysm.

A man with a child in his ears - @shutterspin.
I’m sorry Michael Fuchs but it’s now official, you need to be locked away and never let out again. No more wasting time on recreation and spending time with family and friends you need to be working 24/7 on new books for this series. R C Bray we can let out on license in between recording sessions but only if he promises not to the leave the country. This series is a REAL guilty pleasure and the fact that the adrenalin has kept flowing for so many books and I still look forwards to each new one coming out tells me all I need to know about it. So sorry Michael / RC you need to accept responsibility for creating my addiction!
That said, in truth this one isn’t quite the same high-octane, non-stop action that most of the books in the series have managed to deliver. It does take a while to get going, relatively speaking, and when the action does start it occasionally feels a bit choppy as it switches from London to Africa with occasional visits to Russia thrown in. It was still good though and I certainly get the feeling that the next book will be a real blast given the scenes that have been set.
It’s worth noting that the last half hour of the book is in fact a taster of the next in the series. I didn’t listen to it this time, I suspect that the pace of that one will be frenetic and I don’t want to get into the first half hour just to have to wait a few months to get my next fix.
So, although Cataclysm is not the very best in the series it is still damn good and clearly sets things up to follow in epic fashion. If you’ve not read the series then much better to start at the beginning and believe me it’s a hell of a ride.
I love when the team start dropping movie lines for banter. Very cool and slick dialogue, that's in character for all the team members.
The guy delivers the characters as full blown movie stars. I love his voice for this, and other genre`s. I thought he won the Zombie narrator battle hands down. Gunny Thick would personally cranial penetrate the Oedipus complex-ed excrement out of anyone that differs..
All of it.
Writer, reader, now an avid listener, why hadn't I discovered this before!
I really have had a blast with these, but there are some really hit and miss sections of just pure bad luck. These guys are so highly trained, yet they do make the really craziest mistakes. I can forgive it because they're Zombie and fantasy books, with a whole lot of real life, character situations and days without sleep. But they're still pretty daft mistakes, that I really do hope highly trained people wouldn't make.
However, this is one of the most entertaining series I have had the pleasure of listening to, and the action and character development, even if sometimes things seem odd, is brilliantly done. Yes, I am now a big fan, and I don't mind admitting it. I just went to look up the writers and narrator on facebook....
Thanks for being so awesome. (PS I saw book 11 is on the cards for audio, squee)
Father of 2, born in the 70's, love SiFi, was avid reader now an avid listener, makes dog walking in the rain that bit more bearable!
one of the very best, a series of books which I cannot wait to read the next installment...
Read them in order, I dare you to not be as eager as I am to pick up/start the next book?
Every time I write a review of these book series I always say wow that's the best one yet. It's so refreshing to know that each book gets better and better.. Cant wait for book 10. A must listed/read for Zombie fans and R. C. Bray brings the whole store to life!
As good as ever. RC Bray gives another fantastic performance but it seemed really quite short. Building up nicely to the end game and some great nods the duggan and maximum bob from the prequel story
Absolutely brilliant series, with R. C Bray brining to whole story to life.
I have listened to every book so far and found I am completely engrossed with every step the story takes.
"Awesome book but..."
Another awesome book in the series but I really wish the author would advance the storyline more and stop jumping all over the place tell the story from multiple points of view and just stick to telling it from team alpha's point of view, they are the only reason I keep buying the books to see what they face next.
"Does absolutely nothing to advance the story."
This entire book could have been easily condensed and added to the next book in the series. On its own it does nothing at all to advance the story of the Arisen series. Everything is more or less as it was at the end of the book as it was at the start. Considering how book 8.5 ended this is especially disappointing.
R.C. does an amazing job as usual.
"Another great book in the series"
Another great book in the series... exciting, suspenseful... you never know what happens yet, you just know that whatever happens... it's going to suck worse for the characters than the last 10 minutes. My one and only qualm with the book... I have to wait until the next one is released... grrr!
"The story of Alpha continues..."
Absolutely THE best zombie apocalypse series and this installment does not disappoint. Can't wait for the next book...no really I NEED it!
The book was just as amazing as the ones before. It's one of the greatest series of books I have heard. Can't wait for the next!
"Can't wait for the next one."
RC Bray is the one of the best narrators out there. Story is as good as usual for this series.
This would make a great movie series.
Very well done can't wait for the next one.
"This is getting expensive..."
This is by far the best ZA series I've read yet. Please package them in books of 3. Thanks.
"favorite book series ever"
this is probably tied for my favorite book series with the Clive Cussler Oregon series. by far best zombie books ever written. I was in the Marine Corps for five years and these books are not only practical but militarily accurate within reason
"another outstanding book for the series"
i have both the print and audio edition
the hand to hand combat with the evil meanie while our hero is directing traffic from the team in the middle of battle.
he brings the story alive by giving each charter his own voice with humor, suspenseful and caring
instead of "the expendables" how about "the indestructibles"
keep the books coming!
