Summary
Something wicked is at work in Colorado's supernatural community. Vampires are being paralyzed or killed with poison...a weapon favored by witches. This offense threatens to break apart the already-fractured alliance between witches and the undead.
The state's cardinal vampire, Maven, summons boundary witch Allison "Lex" Luther to stop the killing before it ignites a war. Lex has barely started investigating when she gets another surprise: the biological father she's never met arrives on her doorstep. He has answers to all of Lex's questions about her bloodline, but getting those answers could mean betraying the life she's already built.
Then the next vampire is poisoned - and this time it's Maven herself. The new evil that hunts Lex is powerful and ruthless enough to stop the strongest supernatural creature in the state. In order to find such a killer, Lex will have to face down her own birthright and call on every ally - both living and dead.

Gripping, funny and clever
Great book. All the characters really believable and and exciting, twisty story with plenty of suspense. Highly recommend.

This is a terrific mystery with nothing is what it seems, and then when Lex learns the truth it is even more crazy. Great story, with lots of tension and friendship that keeps the story alive. Read brilliantly again Mate Rudd.

The series carries on at a pace, love it...
Oh my goodness Lex just cannot get a break!!! Poor love. It makes for a fascinating listen though. Quadruple thumbs up, seriously. I didn't see the twists coming and I thoroughly enjoyed the story. It's not dipping at all (always a concern in a series) it's just carrying onwards, building the world and giving more info on the characters.
Kate Rudd is an excellent narrator as always. I feel so comfortable listening to her. Heading for the next book...

Another excellent installment in the Lex Saga!
I really enjoyed this installment as we got some background info into Lex and where she really came from.
Kate Rudd is great I'm just not keen on the Male accents but shes greatest how she switches so quickly.

Lex does amazing in difficult situations.
I really enjoy this series, This book does not disappoint the narrator Kate Rudd does a wonderful job at bringing the different characters to life, I can always tell who is talking. It is hard to comment on the story without giving any spoilers away but I will try. Lex tries so hard in this book to keep on her mission even though at times she is not feeling 100%. There are some worrying parts, as in how is she going to get through this. Melissa F. Olson and Kate Rudd does a fantastic job of keeping the listener wanting more. I liked the chapter lengths they were long enough that you could listen to one or two just before bed.
