Something wicked is at work in Colorado's supernatural community. Vampires are being paralyzed or killed with poison...a weapon favored by witches. This offense threatens to break apart the already-fractured alliance between witches and the undead.
The state's cardinal vampire, Maven, summons boundary witch Allison "Lex" Luther to stop the killing before it ignites a war. Lex has barely started investigating when she gets another surprise: the biological father she's never met arrives on her doorstep. He has answers to all of Lex's questions about her bloodline, but getting those answers could mean betraying the life she's already built.
Then the next vampire is poisoned - and this time it's Maven herself. The new evil that hunts Lex is powerful and ruthless enough to stop the strongest supernatural creature in the state. In order to find such a killer, Lex will have to face down her own birthright and call on every ally - both living and dead.

I really enjoy this series, This book does not disappoint the narrator Kate Rudd does a wonderful job at bringing the different characters to life, I can always tell who is talking. It is hard to comment on the story without giving any spoilers away but I will try. Lex tries so hard in this book to keep on her mission even though at times she is not feeling 100%. There are some worrying parts, as in how is she going to get through this. Melissa F. Olson and Kate Rudd does a fantastic job of keeping the listener wanting more. I liked the chapter lengths they were long enough that you could listen to one or two just before bed.
As always another fabulous tale from one of the top ten fantasy writers. highly recommended.
"And It Just Keeps Getting Better"
As much as I love the Scarlett series this is my favorite book by Melissa F. Olson so far. This is mainly due to Lex's character development. Lex remains naive to the Old World and is still stubborn as a mule, yet she is learning to trust the people she cares about.
It's this slow but rich development is I love Mrs. Olson's work so much
Lily. Her humor and personality really balance out Lex's.
There are a few and to avoid spoilers I'll leave it at that.
I am not a fan of Kate Rudd. Her accent is so pronounced every time she has to do another accent it's just painful to hear. But anyone who is a fan of her work will not find fault in her performance
Over all I loved this book..Great pacing, great character development and a solid story. What more could you ask for.
"Still a great read!"
The most entertaining thing about this one, it is not about Charlie. Yes, her name is repeated throughout the book, but she is not in any danger. The next bonus, Lex find out her parents and there is evil in the shadows. My disappointment is the, "I am a monster syndrome” In situations where the protagonist finds out their parents were not the sterling members of the community, they feel guilty. They interpret their parents’ action as recriminations against themselves. Oh my god, I am evil, oh my god I am a monster. The only thing that has changed is they now know their blood line. That is needless filler and extremely unoriginal by the author.
Lily and Simon are great as always. I really enjoy how they make up their own minds versus following what the coven says. I really like Lily’s voice and personality. Their mother is ok too. I understand her restraints. There is real witch royalty introduced. I would like to see that expanded upon.
Why is it when lovers get into the struggle, I will be there to protect you, regardless if it kills you. Yep, Lex and Quin encounter a situation where she had to betray Quinn to keep herself safe. Again my WTF meter goes off doing the ensuring argument between them. After they make a promise not to do it again and you can hear the ominous music in the background.
All said and done, I enjoyed the book.
"Excellent as always!"
The main character is a kick-butt woman who is so easy to relate to.
Lex saving the day one awesome adventure at a time.
Lex - always Lex.
No...but I listened to it within just a few days. I just LOVE these books!
I absolutely love listening to these stories about Lex. She is such a force of nature, so brave and fueled by her desire to protect everyone she loves and cares about and is at the same time so human and so real. I love this series and I am already eagerly awaiting the next book!!
"I thoroughly enjoyed this book!"
I waited for several months for Boundary Born to be released and was definitely not disappointed. would love to read more in this storyline, hopefully Melissa Friday. Olson will continue writing on this storyline.
Love love love this series. Wish it never ended... So exciting with twists and turns.. Must read
Third book in the Boundary series. Fascinating, gripping, intriguing tale of Lex's history. Questions get answered in this novel while a few new ones are posed. Great story with interesting characters, storyline, & plot.
"My kids and I are SO EXCITED to cont this series!"
So captivating! So creative! So clever!! I love the humor interjected into the drama and suspense. The death humor just kills me! (Pun intended!) :)
This is the third book in the Boundary Magic Series and it didn't let me down. In this story something is attacking the Vampires in Colorado and Lex, Quinn and their friends try to find out who and why. While the story moves along Lex learns a lot about her background and the background of boundary magic. Throughout this series Lex has been dealing with the fact that she is a boundary witch and everything that involves and how it affects her life and in this book we see this to a greater extent. Loved seeing how her and Quinn's relationship has grown and how her friendship with Lily and Simon has also grown. It was a fast read from beginning to end and all around fantastic story. I listened to the audio book and wanted to say that Kate Rudd did a great job narrating it.
"Lex Finds Her Strength and Her Father"
Lex may have met her match, her biological father. Or, it he really her father? The good news is that Quinn is still in the picture and she is learning about her magic. This story shows here gaining her strength as a boundary witch and she gets to show off her skills when she finds out that her father is not trying to bond with her but rather trying to kidnap her and take her away from Boulder and her family. She is smart though so she figures out how to out magic him. There is some involvement from the LA crowd and there is a happy ending. There will be another book about Lex.
"Best Boundary Magic book so far!"

I’ve been looking forward to BOUNDARY BORN since I finished BOUNDARY LINES last year. And BOUNDARY BORN was easily worth the wait. The Boundary Magic series has gotten significantly better with each book, and BOUNDARY BORN has continued that tradition by bringing us another epic adventure.
Lex has become one of my favorite urban fantasy heroines. She has her doubts and struggles. But Lex isn’t whiny like some heroines can get. She’s died multiple times, her twin sister was killed by werewolves before she even knew about the Old World, and she has PTSD from her time in the Army. Those are just a few of her issues but she doesn’t moan about how the world is out to get her, she just gets up and fights back.
There isn’t really any romance in BOUNDARY BORN, which I was fine with, but if that’s what you’re looking for it isn’t here. Lex is in a healthy relationship, with an actually decent guy (something I rarely find in female led urban fantasy/paranormal romance.) Quinn doesn’t try to keep Lex locked up despite that fact that she’s clearly capable of holding her own in a fight, and he’s even honest with Lex and tells her about his not so pleasant past. And Lex doesn’t see the need to mention every other page how hot Quinn is. It is clear that their relationship is much more than the abusive and lustful relationships of paranormal romance.
Another thing that Melissa Olson does spectacularly is having injured characters. In the last Scarlett Bernard book, Scarlett had to use a crutch the whole time. In BOUNDARY BORN Lex gets injured and has to deal with those effects. It makes sense that vampire and werewolf characters heal fast, but sometimes it's fun to see the characters actually have consequences for the actions they take.
BOUNDARY BORN is an amazing book. I’ll miss Lex as Melissa Olson returns to the Scarlett Bernard series. But there are still adventures for Lex so I’m certain that Olson will return to the Boundary Magic series again.
