Publisher's Summary

Rupert didn't especially want to be a prince. And he certainly never asked to be the second son of a royal line that really didn't need a spare. So he was sent out to slay a dragon and prove himself - a quest straight out of legend. But he also discovered the kinds of things legends tend to leave out, as well as the usual demons, goblins, the dreaded Night Witch - and even worse terrors hidden in the shadows of Darkwood. Rupert did find a fiery dragon - and a beautiful princess to rescue. But the dragon turned out to be a better friend than anyone back at the castle, and with the evil of Darkwood spreading, Rupert was going to need all the friends he could get.

    "oddly paced"

I didn't like the narrator at all.
the book was overly long in places while skipping detail elsewhere.

but I am a hard core fan of the Nightside. I know authors want to grow, to change their craft into an entirely different direction and, personally, I hate that. I earned my bread and supported a family as an artist so really, I do understand. But the Drood novels and now this new series... sorry - I just can't move on to the next book.

Would you consider the audio edition of Blue Moon Rising to be better than the print version?

I would rather listen to the audible version the narrator is excellent he puts you right there

What did you like best about this story?

It has humor action and court intrigue

    Which scene was your favorite?

Although I don't have one favorite scene I would say Rupert and his unicorn have some pretty cool banter they're pretty funny

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

I like the way Ruppert cares about the towns people and people in general's nice to see a person in a royal position actually care about the little people

    Any additional comments?

Don't miss out on this book I guarantee you will like it and Audible is very cool if you don't like it they will give you your credit back but you won't want it back on this book it's great

    "a pleasant surprise"

I bought this book around Christmas time...the first time I have ever bought an audio book with money instead of the monthly subscription...I think I paid 3$ for it...I figured hey let's roll the dice and see what happens...

I have to say I was very happy with this book...I started during the holiday season and as soon as I heard the narrator say unicorn I turned it off and thought to myself, "I like fantasy, but I don't know If I could handle a book with unicorns " boy was I wrong.

I ran out of credits this week and decided to give it another shot...I finished this book in 2 days while at work...

the story is very good and the characters have individuality...and the narrator is one of the best out there... there is something magical about this book that I cannot put into words (if I could I would probably write books for a living instead of what I currently do)

I would recommend this book to anyone who likes the Sword of Truth series, the Ryria series, or even the Wheel of Time series

Would you consider the audio edition of Blue Moon Rising to be better than the print version?

    Yes

    Any additional comments?

I have read a few of his other series and thoroughly enjoyed them . This is a side of him I haven't seen. It is amusing while being dark. I laughed the entire way. An awesome story and I would recommend it to anyone.

    Any additional comments?

I almost stopped listening to this book when within the first hour or so I was introduced to a knight, vampire, talking unicorn, witch, troll, demon, and a talking dragon.-I love the fantasy genre, but it needs to be a little believable. Nonetheless I stuck in there (I was on the road and could not download another book), once half of those characters were dropped the story was not that bad.

    "Fantastic!"

The plot was very entertaining if a little predictable, and the reader did a great job with the various characters. I highly recommend this book to anyone just looking to enjoy a fun story.

    "Fun Characters"
What did you like best about Blue Moon Rising? What did you like least?

    Chracters best, violence least

What was most disappointing about Simon R. Green’s story?

Didn't flesh out areas where I wanted, instead bulked up on the gory fighting descriptions.Lots of politcial intrigues also, which is not why I read fantasy; I love the magic and there really wasn't much in this.

Which character – as performed by John Keating – was your favorite?

    The Unicorn

Did Blue Moon Rising inspire you to do anything?

Read up on reviews of the Hawk and Fisher series to see what they were.

    Any additional comments?

Thought this might be a good match for me. Loved the beginning chapters, with ironic statements and humorous comments, then it suddenly turned into violent fights, complete with gory descriptions, so I kept pausing and wondering whether I should return it. I really liked a few of the main characters and their interactions, so continued to give it many chances to get better. As it got further in, it seemed like whole chapters were only fighting, and more fighting, blood spraying the air kind of stuff. Too much for me, but I worked my way through it and am glad I did, because there are some really fun characters in here that I’m glad I got to meet. I think this author is way too violent for my tastes, but you may like it.There are some really humorous parts, but not enough was interesting to me to want to, or be paid to, read anything else by this author.

    Story
    "Really?"

I made it to the final four hours of this very long book with the hope that the glowing reviews would turn out to be right. Then I just couldn't stand it anymore. It's a simple-minded, Disney-like story involving a prince, princess, demons, and a dark forest. Oh, and a unicorn, a dragon, a mage, and goblins. They are all silly and the story plods. After the first couple hours, the characters do become slightly more complex, but that's only because they started out as one-dimensional cartoon figures. It might be a bit gory for 5-6 year olds, but otherwise it's at their level.

    "great story"

Story told by third person. Narrator handles different characters easily. Lots of twists in the plot. I felt thoroughly engaged in the story.

    "Pleasant Surprise"
If you could sum up Blue Moon Rising in three words, what would they be?

I wasn't expecting much from this book, but it really was good. It did get a tad predictable at times, but it was fun and well written/performed. I chose this book on a whim, and I"m glad I did.

What other book might you compare Blue Moon Rising to and why?

There is a bit of a Pratchett feel to the books.

Which character – as performed by John Keating – was your favorite?

    Unicorn.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Naw, its too long...but I did listen to it for several hours in one sitting.
