Lethal, sexy, and always ready to protect her friends, Gin Blanco (a.k.a. the Spider) takes on the mysterious M.M. Monroe in book 12 of the New York Times and USA TODAY best-selling Elemental Assassin urban fantasy series. There's nothing worse than a cruel, cunning enemy with time to kill - and my murder to plan. With wicked Fire elemental Mab Monroe long gone, you'd think I could finally catch a break. But someone's always trying to take me down, either as Gin Blanco or my assassin alter-ago. Now along comes the Spider's new arch-nemesis, the mysteriously named M. M. Monroe, who is gleefully working overtime to trap me in a sticky web of deceit. The thing is, I'm not the only target. I can see through the tangled threads enough to know that every bit of bad luck my friends have been having lately is no accident - and that each unfortunate "coincidence" is just one more arrow drawing ever closer to hitting the real bull's-eye. Though new to Ashland, this M. M. Monroe is no stranger to irony, trying to get me, an assassin, framed for murder. Yet, as my enemy's master plan is slowly revealed, I have a sinking feeling that it will take more than my powerful Ice and Stone magic to stop my whole life from going up in flames.

After tge disappointment with previous book I wasn't expecting this one to be any better but the writer definitely got back on track. really enjoyed this book.
Jennifer Estep has produced yet another terrific Gin Blanco story. Love the way Gin's enemies elemental powers keep getting wierder and the deaths more gruesome. Lauren Fortgang continues to be the perfect narrator for this series.

First Thoughts when Finished: Black Widow by Jennifer Estep was another strong entry in Elemental Assassins series. The characters are still as bad*ss as ever. Also, I really dug the different way that this all "played" out in the end. MM was not my favorite villain in the series but I think she maybe was the craftiest. I was just happy that it appears Bria is finally ok with her sister (let's hope cause if not I am taking Finn back).
Narrated by: Lauren Fortgang /Length: 10 hrs and 17 mins
Once a series goes into automatic listen (which this is for me) I sound a bit like a broken record. However, let me state this again: Lauren nails Gin and Gang with the sass, brass, and southern of a narrator who just might really be an elemental assassin! She is that convincing :) So just listen to it already!

"Good Addition to the Series"
I have loved this series ever since my wife introduced me to paranormal romance.
The whole series is well written and well read. 9 out of 10 and I will revisit the
whole series several times again.
Her characterizations and Southern Accent make BLACK WIDOW and the whole
Elemental Assassin series a Joy to Listen to.
"Super surprise ending"
It was very different from the other stories, the line was very active and fast. Non-stop action from start to finish.
Lauren Fortgang is one of my favorite narrators, she's fantastic with different voices even men. She's also great with emotions. I've listened to her narrations in other books by other authors.
Several, especially the end which is a real twist. (fans will love it)
I've listened to every book in the series and only one (book 6) I didn't enjoy. because of Detective Donovan Caine, who was so pompous it made the story annoying. (glad he's not in any of the stories anymore)
yes, it has a great bit of humor and the narrator is easy to listen to.
sloppy, sloppy, sloppy... cracked me up every time she said it. liked relationship with her "brother"...
probably the bit of twang in her voice, but it fits.
moved...? the books are fun, not deep.
"A testament of will!"
Gin is, by far and away, the most powerful elemental ever. She's also like a cat, with 9 lives. She can survive even a blaze to destroy the Pork Pit. How she manages to defeat even death is unbelievable. This is a true testament to her abilities. Yet, the cycle continues in the blood feud between the Snow's and the Monroe's.
As always a great read it just keeps going and getting better will hate to get to the end of the series
It felt to much like the original story. The same boss with lame powers. I was disappointed.
"LilyElement Book Reviews - Black Widow"
Gin Blanco returns in book 12 of the Elemental Assassin series. This time around Gin is dealing with M. M. Monroe, the daughter of Mab Monroe who was one of the big bad villains in the previous books. I didn't think I would dislike any of the villains as much as Mab, but I do believe her daughter takes the cake. Mab was a lot more straightforward, she didn't mess around she just did what she wanted by brute force with her fire magic. Madeline on the other hand is more cunning, she likes toying with her prey and Gin is squarely in her line of sight, and so are her friends. Madeline manages to attack everything Gin holds dear, her friends, family, the Pork Pit (her restaurant), and of course Gin. How Gin would manage to outwit and defeat Madeline, I wasn't sure but I knew it would be a big battle.
I do believe Black Widow is probably my favorite book in the series yet. Gin's character continues to grow, the villains aren't the same old boring ones used over and over. I'm finally catching up to where the series is currently. Now I have to wait for the next book, which luckily comes out this year (July 2015), This is a great Urban Fantasy series, and I highly recommend it.
I love this series and this book did not disappoint! Well developed with lots of action!
This has quickly become one of my favorite series. Each book is better than the last as it pulls you deeper into Gin's world.
