Life is simple in Ben's small town until an attack brings the arrival of exciting strangers straight out of a story. Before Ben understands what is happening, he embarks on a dangerous journey to help his friends. A mage, demons, thieves, and assassins are just a few of the perils he will face while trying to make it to safety. But things aren't always what they seem, and safety is a fragile concept when the destructive behaviors of the powerful are exercised unchecked. In Ben's world - like our own - politics, the economy, and military might create a system to keep the elite in power at the expense of the common man. As the series unfolds and Ben's knowledge and skills grow, he will have to decide if he wants to live within the system, flee from it, or break it.

"From the beginning the action starts and it carries straight on through until the end...it will be truly enjoyed by all who read it!" (The Genre Minx Book Reviews)

"Could have been good....but?"
Could have been a great coming of age story, but there were way too many dead spots for a book so short. I really liked the premise and a few of the characters, but due to the fact that the book was so short there was really no time to develop them.
"Great adventure tale."
Kept interest peeked, author led you to a clear view of the scenery. Great adventure tale.
"A Solid Protagonist with Potential"
A good start. With a very realistic approach to learning to fight. The character learns but at a realistic pace.
"Decent start to a new series"
I enjoyed this first book with a nice opening tale. The character development was good, and I was even surprised at the ending. I'm looking forward to the next book.
"Poor ending, plus and minus story"
So, having just finished the book, I am disappointed. It just ended mid-story, poorly done. On the plus side, the stories main character(s) are at least human...so far. They are a little 2D, but not so much that I didn't enjoy the story progression. It does feel like there is a moral theme rolling/hammering/drowning the story, but its at least fair and different approach to the good guy/bad guy themes. I think the description for this book with "a mage, a thief, a warrior" does it some dis-service, it really didn't feel like a world of warcraft dungeon run.Personally, I would save the credit until more of the series is out, the ending feels like a marketing money grab. Once there are more out, it is probably worth the credit, its a fun, light listen.
It's a realm of sword and sorcery where everything is believable. Magic seems in short supply, and the makings of some serious intrigue.
"Pleasant surprise for fans epic fantasy."
There are many books that people claim that they are similar to wheel of time, but this one is the only one that really reminded me of Eye of the World. It is a coming of age story that is very similar to Wheel of Time. It is not as complex as wheel of time, but the story did scratch the itch I get for coming of age stories. There are all powerful women that semi control the world. There are monsters and of course a hero that believes things are just stories until he is confronted with them. While this story has some holes in it I actually found it enjoyable as a light read. The characters for the most part are likable and I have already started reading the next book on kindle. The next book should be out next month here if want as well. There are some sexual situations in this book, but nothing over the top or graphic.
The narration was good. If you want a nice coming of age story read this.
"a very slow start"
Very slow pace. I was wondering, what was the point of reading this book. Near to its end, it hooked me. The magic system isn't very developed. The explainations are thru the eyes of Ben, who doesn't know much.. So that's consistent. Need to use the characters to explain more of the world system.. Good overall read.
"great start to a new series"
the one thing that sucks about this book, is the it ends. lol looks like a multi series book, on of the bad thing, if it's good, is waiting for the next one to come out. great characters, good action for a first book twisty plots all in all a very good start!
"Worth every penny!"
I loved this book and stayed up into the early morning to finish it. The narrator did a great job capturing each character and the author kept the book exciting with a great balance of action, character development and humor. If you are a fan of YA fantasy but are looking for a book that feels like its written for a reader in there early twenties instead of a 12 year old this book is a must read.
