Summary

Toorop, a hard-boiled leatherneck veteran, has been hired to escort a young woman from Russia to Canada. But Marie is no ordinary girl. A schizophrenic and a possible carrier of a new artificial virus, Marie is bearing a mutant embryo created by an American cult, which dreams of producing a genetically modified messiah that will end all human life as we know it. Now, Toorop will risk his life to save Marie, as her brain, linking to the neuromatrix, surpasses all limits to become the universe itself.

Combining metaphysics with cyberpunk post-humanism in the spirit of Philip K. Dick., Babylon Babies rides Nietzsche's prophecy: "Man is something to be overcome."

Translated by Noura Wedell.

Critic reviews

"Explosive and paranoid, this futuristic fable by French sci-fi novelist Dantec explores the frightening ramifications of genetic experimentation....Riddled with acronyms and pop culture allusions, this is an intense, intellectually labyrinthine ride." ( Publishers Weekly)

Dull with swearing and blasphemy.

Would you try another book written by Maurice G. Dantec or narrated by Joe Barrett?

No and yes to narrator.

What will your next listen be?

The Prestige. I am listening to it now. It's a good yarn.

Which scene did you most enjoy?

I didn't enjoy this book.

If you could play editor, what scene or scenes would you have cut from Babylon Babies?

The swearing and blasphemy. It was totally unnecessary to the story. The story for most part was a dull fictional war story without action and more about the positions of the antagonists.

Any additional comments?

The Sci-Fi was more towards the latter part of the story but I stopped listening when the blasphemy kicked in. It is numbered as one of the dullest Sci-Fi books I have listened to.
This writer appears to have no respect for his readers and must think we are all from foul mouthed underclasses.
I would like Audible to put in a link to block writers we don't like so that we don't accidently purchase one of their books again.
