Summary

He wasn't expected to survive, and for 20 years, he has managed to stay off their radar. Until now. Until her.

Gryffin was the sole survivor of The Foundation's experimental project to transform human children into hybrid cyborgs - half human, half machine. The program failed and he was sent on a one way trip into The Outer Sector where he was left for dead. He has survived for 20 years by suppressing his human emotions and embracing his machine side.

Officer Terra Rush believes in her duty to the Foundation. The Sector needs to be prepared for colonization, and nothing can stop her from doing her job... except him. When Gryffin saves her from an attack, Terra uncovers a terrible secret. The Foundation has been lying to her... and maybe they still are.

They have labelled Gryffin a killing machine, yet he acts more human than many of The Foundation's leaders. He has awakened intense feelings in Terra that throw her loyalties into question, and even though he pushes her away, she is determined to find out the truth about the cyborg program.

Gryffin refuses to be a mindless soldier, yet escaping The Foundation's control and stopping the colonization of his home will require Terra's help. Can Gryffin overcome the machine inside and trust her? Or will getting in touch with his human emotions destroy him once and for all?

Part man, part machine, always angry.

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

I would absolutely recommend Ares. Great story , great performance. Just great

What was one of the most memorable moments of Ares?

Quite a sad part when Griffin is taken in to custody

Which character – as performed by Keith Michaelson – was your favourite?

Probably the same as most people, Griffin.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Yes I would have liked to listen to it all at once but at just over 16 hours it was too much for 1 sitting

Any additional comments?

Normally most science fiction books send a lot of time talking about how the technology in their universe works. Ares is a more character driven story and I enjoyed it immensely.A fantastic story and a wonderful performance. I was provided this audiobook at no charge by the author, publisher and/or narrator in exchange for an unbiased review via AudiobookBlast dot com.

Mesmerising story, must listen to it!

What did you like most about Ares?

The down to earth storytelling and realistic characters mixed with great narration.

Who was your favorite character and why?

It has to be Gryffin. Initially I didn't want to like him but I couldn't help myself warming to him. He definitely needs a break!

What does Keith Michaelson bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you had only read the book?

The various and wide range of voices and personalities he portrays really helps to bring the different characters to life. After hearing the voices a few times, the speech tags were no longer needed - I knew who they all were. Brilliant narration!

Did you have an emotional reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

Both at times, depending on the scene. A lot of what Gryffin goes through is upsetting and the narration only increases this feeling - great job!

Any additional comments?

I'm really looking forward to the sequel - hopefully it will be released as an audiobook too!

Ares

Any additional comments?

Good Sci Fi book!I listened to the audiobook narrated by Keith Michaelson. He did a fine job.Griffin is a cyborg, part of an experiment by the 'Foundation' to create mechanized soldiers. He is considered mor killing machine than man,but he is actually a nice guy. He's been steering clear of the Foundation for years...until Terra crosses his path. She's from the Foundation and believes all they say...until she find's that they have lied to her. Will she discover the truth? Will they both make it through alive?

An addictive ride!

If you could sum up Ares in three words, what would they be?

Think I said it above!

Who was your favorite character and why?

It would have to be between Griffin and Milla (the doctor) for completely different reasons. He's the not-so-perfect hero with a bad attitude and she's the cheery friend you could have a great night out with.

Have you listened to any of Keith Michaelson’s other performances? How does this one compare?

I haven't but I'm tempted to. It will be great if he narrates the sequel to this

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Unfortunately for me - yes! I listen to audiobooks on my commute. I found myself watching the clock in my car, trying to grab a few more seconds with the book before I had to go to work, then rushed out at lunch to listen again. If not for work then I would have listened in one go!

Any additional comments?

Fantastic varied narration makes the believable characters more believable. Bring on Nemesis!!!!!

Great sci-fi story!!

Any additional comments?

I am a sci-fi and horror fan and I am a tough reader to please, so when I began with this audiobook I wasn't sure what to expect. Now I can say that it exceeded all of my expectations, it is AMAZING. The story is pretty original, refreshing and very well put together. Characters are nicely developed and constant tension between Griffin and Terra was intriguing for me. I highly recommend this audiobook and I can't wait for the next chapter!

Worth the Listen

I did not know KA Finn, so bought this by chance .... And I am so glad I did.

You can pretty much tell whether a book is going to be a good listen if it involves you from the outset, and this book did.

Good narration always helps when listening, and this narrator did not disappoint.

All in all, a good space opera and I look forward to listening to the next instalment.

An evil scientist and cool battles in space.

Would you consider the audio edition of Ares to be better than the print version?

Great narration. It brings the story to life. Creepy voices, different feel to the different characters!

What was one of the most memorable moments of Ares?

It's a space opera. It's a vast rolling far reaching epic. I've not read many of those. Try it!

What about Keith Michaelson’s performance did you like?

A really good voice actor/ narrator that is perfect for this book!

If you made a film of this book, what would be the tag line be?

Man vs the machine within him.
