Publisher's Summary

Someone is searching for the lost weapons of the H'san: powerful enough to destroy entire planets. Though the H'san gave up fighting long ago, the reappearance of their lost weapons would no doubt lead to a devastating war. It's up to Torin Kerr and her team to fix this problem before it explodes. But the more Torin learns about the relationship between the Elder and Younger races, the more she fears war might be unavoidable.

    "Tanya Huff always delivers"
    Any additional comments?

The confederation/valor series has always been a comfort listen of mine (which is weird since it has its fair share of tragedy) and An Ancient Peace is a fantastic addition.

I love that these characters seem like real people (even the non-human ones) and I am massive sucker for books with competent people making smart decisions with limited data. Also space opera is wonderful when done thoughtfully and well.

If you like books by John Scalzi or Elizabeth Moon then I would highly recommend this series (but I would suggest starting a little earlier to get the maximum out of it).

"Great Story, almost worth the wait, Narration is.."
    Any additional comments?

I LOVE Torin Kerr (main character), and the narrator (Marguerite Gavin) is the definitive voice of Torin Kerr. I cannot imagine her sounding like anyone else. Marguerite just nails the sarcasm, pessimism, and hope that Torin filters her view of life through. She's absolutely perfect as narrator for these books, and has, thankfully, narrated the entire series.

However, for some reason, she has forgotten what Craig sounds like! She's got Binty (Mishona) down pat, so that's still good, but Wresk and the other Cray (Kray?) don't sound the same as they used to either, but their voices are less jarring than Craig's voice. She's just all but killed Craig's likable qualities from the last few books with her voice portrayal of him in this latest installment.

Another minor negative in this audio version is that Torin talks to herself a lot (privately in her head, not out loud). In past books, Marguerite Gavin was able to somehow modulate her voice so that is was pretty clear if Torin was talking out loud or just thinking it to herself. In this book, she's lost that deft touch and it was much hard to distinguish between silent thoughts and actual dialogue. That was a bit distracting on numerous occasions, but it was minor, not major.

Voices aside, this is another excellent book from Tanya Huff. I've been waiting for this book for YEARS now, and it did not disappoint. Even better is that it is listed as Book One of a new series! I am thrilled with that, but I really hope Tanya can crank them out faster than this one took. Seriously, years? Far too long. Maybe take a class from Christopher Nutall, Richard Tongue, or Ryk Brown, all of whom have probably written an entire book in the time it took me to write this one review :-)

    "Into the tombs"

Another adventure with Torin and her crew. Now no longer in the Military, Torin is asked to find a group of mercenaries searching for the ancient weapons of the H'san, execute them and prevent any of the weapons from leaving the burial site. A great start to a new series starring Torin and her crew. Loved it and eagerly awaiting the next book.

    "Not bad"

I was overjoyed that the Torin storyline continued past the Valor series. The story was enjoyable; filled with Kerr wittiness and the like. The only issue I had was narration. I wish the narrator had listened to some of the pronunciations from the other series to keep the consistent. I know Rider (Ryder?) was supposed to have an accent but the change took some getting used to. Also, his eye color changed... In any case this was a good starting point for Kerr and her team.

    "Loved it"

Always regret finishing, because I know I'll have to wait for the next one. This is going to be an interesting new direction for Torin and her team.

Narrating is hard work; I could never do what MG does - but I did find the change in her performance of Craig's voice to be distracting.

    "Loved it!"

These characters are some of my favorites. Was so glad to get to know them again. Will be watching for the next audible book in the Ancient Peace series. The narrator Ms. Gavin is my all time favorite story teller. She makes the characters come to life...

"great change, where are my voice actors!"

I love the idea and move to the peacekeeper mode. my only complaint is why, why did you change the voice actors? Craig is not British! other than that not bad.

    "tired cliches and lazy descriptions"

Written from the phone app so exuse the poor punctuation. I really liked the earlier books in the series but this book continues the downward trend of the series. virtually every character can be described in a single sentence like "crusty marine corporal with a warm heat underneath" "obnoxious, vain journalist." sometimes literally, as the author used the sentence "she's a sniper. she sees things better from far away" at least three times in the voice of three different characters. she also had at least for different character of different races from completely different parts of the galaxy use the term "you and yours". finally the author uses really lazy descriptions for the alien characters... the phras " nose ridges slam shut" used for fear, surprise, or anger is use at least a hundred times. "light receptors darkening" or "becoming so pale" as well as "hair waving" are also used repeatedly used dozens of times. even the main character gets really blunt descriptions like you know she deal with emotional scars from the war because the author repeatedly says "she's dealing with emotional scars from the war" .

Tanya keeps the story of Gunny interesting and familiar. Had a hard time stopping for work and as always eagerly awaiting the next book.
