mind blowing, an absolute treasure of a book!

This book has everything the discerning listener could ask for. You're not so much reading the book as becoming part it. Wonderful.

Good story and amazing narration

The story is good, well thought, new enough, interesting, well developed and overall better than the TV show. Characters are complex and well built. The narrators are really good, the voices really evoke the characters. Amazing performance

So that was what all the fuss was about.

Can't say that I will be reading this again. Novel idea, clinically executed.

Great performances by way, they were the reason I stuck it out as long as I did.

But, the work itself is a bit like climbing into a lukewarm hot tub on a cold day. Hotly anticipated but ultimately a cool, disappointing and unsatisfying experience.

A Very Stirring And Original Read

I usually read a book first, then, if there is to be a screen adaptation, I watch the latter... usually with a degree of suspicion and dubiousness!

However, I watched the TV series of American Gods before reading the book, and loved the series although at some times I did feel it over whimsical and incredulous even within its own scope.

Now, on to the book review -

I have recently finished American Gods the book, and am surprised in hindsight now at how the series differs from it, although in this (a true rarity for myself!) instance I feel the series expanded on the book in some pleasing and interesting ways - certainly I love the character developments in the leprechaun and especially the deeper look into Laura's story, which (and I hate to say this Bec the book is absolutely brilliant anyway) I felt could have benefitted from a little more coverage in the written story.

I have heard of Neil Gaiman before, and heard some of his works on the radio, but this is the first full book of his which I have given due time and attention to, and have found it extremely rewarding. I will definitely pursue his other works (starting today with Trigger Warning!) now that I have listened to this one.

I would also like to mention that I found his foreword and afterword a valuable contribution to the book, and as an English woman with an American partner, can appreciate some of the sentiments therein a little more fully, perhaps!

I would highly recommend this outlandish, unusual and impressive work for a listen, it has truly affected me and will not be forgotten.
