The Human Federation of Worlds thought they were alone in the galaxy. But now an alien spacecraft has appeared over one of their distant mining operations. The frightened miners immediately call for help to deal with this worrisome first contact situation.
Admiral Streth is sent to implement talks with the aliens and to find out what they want. The aliens inform the admiral that they are called Hocklyns and are from a large multi-world trading federation. In truth, they come from an empire that is expanding through the galaxy and conquering world after world for slaves, and they have set their sights on the human worlds as their next conquest.

I really liked this Book 2 in the series.
My reason for giving it 4 stars instead of 5 was the narration. The narrator was rushing through the script as though he was running for a bus, which really spoilt it. If he could possibly slow it a bit and give people time to enjoy the storyline, my star rating will increase.
Rarely have I enjoyed an audio book so much. It was gripping and thought provoking and places you right to in the middle of our future humanities struggle to survive, following an unfortunate misguided encounter with a hostile alien empire - amazing space fleet battle action - highly recommended. Can't wait for the next book.
I had come to the end of my books that I was listening to and searching for another good book to listen too and I think that I have found that with this Author, I couldn't take my earphones off once I started and cannot wait for the rest of this series to come along.
I would recomend these stories to other listeners.
"Allen contact book 2"

"Wow! Better than the First!"
Its hard to say why this audiobook performance is so great without spoilers, but incredible action! Space battles! Destruction, close calls and "no way!!!" come to mind!
Great narration and story make for a great time!
"Lot's of Action!"
This is a great audiobook with lot's of space battles and action! This story takes everything to a whole new level! It's becoming one of my favorite series. Excellent narration here as well, that really get's you into the story.
"Should be a first book"
I prefer reading series in chronological order. it seems that this book should be the first. Other than that it is an interesting story
"Loose lips sink ships!"
Aliens have been discovered and they are NOT friendly! The reptilian-like alien species known as Hocklyns in one of their medium-class warships came upon a mining community on a planet at the edge of the Human system. The miners went into panic mode calling on the military for help. Our main protagonist Admiral Streth in his capital line dreadnought Star Strike, along with several slightly smaller warships comprising his battle group, was called upon to investigate and protect the mining outpost. The Hocklyns communicated that they are trading envoys and wish to negotiate trading rights with the humans. Red flags are raised as it is quite suspicious for envoys to travel in warships. Regardless, a negotiating team is flown in and several meetings are conducted. Information is exchanged and evidently too much information is given by our negotiators. Quite abruptly the meetings are over and the Hocklyns return to their ship. The situation deteriorates quickly until shots are fired and all hell breaks loose. The Hocklyns warship is destroyed; evidently negotiations are over. An interstellar war has just begun! The Human Federation prepares for war and the arrival of the Hocklyns fleet. The coming battle will spell life or death for the Federation.
"well writen, engrossing, addictive."
love the series, can't put it down. love the audio addition too. getting the entire series.
"Very good story/plot but author needs to learn his craft."
Very good story/plot but author needs to learn his craft. Very excessive verbiage and meaningless descriptions and improperly developed emotions and forced internal conflicts inconsistent with the role the characters play in the story detract but these books worth the read so due to the good story line. 25% of this book would vanish with proper show don't tell dialog and proper character development. The 25% saved could then be used to expand the story and strengthen our interest in the characters. As it is the books are good but shallow.
"this is almost exactly"
this is almost exactly like another series of his books. still good, but predictable if you've read any of his other works.
Can't wait for next one. Good story and performance. Flow was good and went quickly.
"For me it took a minute. Glad i stayed with it."
