For generations the solar system--Mars, the moon, the asteroid belt--was humanity's great frontier. Until now. The alien artefact working through its program under the clouds of Venus has emerged to build a massive structure outside the orbit of Uranus: a gate that leads into a starless dark.
Jim Holden and the crew of the Rocinante are part of a vast flotilla of scientific and military ships going out to examine the artefact. But behind the scenes, a complex plot is unfolding, with the destruction of Holden at its core. As the emissaries of the human race try to find whether the gate is an opportunity or a threat, the greatest danger is the one they brought with them.

"Great characters, excellent dialogue, memorable fights, freakish experiments and twisty-turny mysteries" (Wired.com)
Over 1000 titles since July 2005. Fairly eclectic tastes: award-winning literature, page-turning pulp plus non-fiction. I don't sight-read.
Another enjoyable romp from Corey’s “Expanse” series. Our heroes, Jim Holden and the crew of the Rocinante, have new problems – as if the proto-molecule and all it has been creating weren’t enough already! This 3rd novel of the series sometimes lacked the break-neck pace of the earlier books, but there are nice plot developments, new characters to introduce and of course lots of action sequences. Same narrator, Jefferson Mays, as 1st two books – he does a good job.
Although, in my opinion, it is not as good as the first two books, Abaddon's Gate is great continuation of the series. The Authors continue to flesh out their universe and developed well thought out characters. I eagerly await the next installment.
I have enjoyed The Expanse series a great deal so far however Abaddon's Gate is defiantly the weakest of the three so far. Very long winded with the character racing about in circles a great deal of the time.
Great story, Strong characterisation and a performance to match. I only wish I'd known this was the third in the series. I really hope there will be more to come in the "Expanse" series.
This is a very imaginative storyline in books 1-3 and very thought provoking and engaging. James Corey's characters are real people who deal with challenges and moral dilemmas in a way that is totally believable. I was engrossed and will carry on with the series. Jefferson Mays performance is outstanding.
Rather against my expectations I have greatly enjoyed the three books in this series I have listened to so far. In normal circumstances I would be, even now, downloading the next one but, for me, the change in narrator makes this impossible! Such a shame! Jefferson Mays has done an amazing job with the ones I have listened to, why on Earth change from him?
The story continues with a great new direction. Mysteries to be solved and further character development. I really enjoyed it and look forward to the next in the series.
I really liked the sequel to the previous stories. this one was quite original. grabbed the next one just right after listening to this one.
