"With the combination of an ancient Celtic myth and the legend of the Headless Horseman, Blackwell's story is a leave-the-light-on kind of page turner... If you like suspenseful thrillers, check out A Soul to Steal." (Indie Reader - Featured on USA Today Books)
Fantasy, thriller and horror fan. Nothing worse than a potentially good book with poor narration!
This ranks quite high in my listens. It's fairly original and well written. The characters are believable and all add to the story.
Trying to guess who Lord Halloween is, it becomes obvious just before you find out but there is plenty to put you off track earlier on.
The fortune teller science was one of the best scenes, and was things said fell into place as story progressed.
Possibly 2 or 3 for me. But that' probably says more about me than the book!
If you like an original story with a few twists then I suggest giving this a chance. I would gladly get another book by this author.
For those who like “who done it” style crime books and horror, then this is the perfect combination of both genres. With great characters and pace, this story pulls you in from the start until the end.I listened to the book in two days. I only found this book after a two for one offer but am so please I chose to download. If I had to compare this to another author then Dean Koontz comes to mind......his better work!
He did a fantastic job.....!! No silly female voices and his portrayal of the killer was creepy without going to over the top!
This was a great little ghost story its a gripping tale about a serial killer that is back its quite spooky in places too. I was very surprised how it all turned out really twisty I did not know there's more books in this series I will be listening to them for sure.
"Brian Gill gives voice to a great story"
While many would wait till the fall for a good ghost story, I bought the audio version of 'a soul to steal' to re-read a favorite this spring. I love the story an was most impressed with the voices and emotions Mr Gill gave the characters. This is a great performance of an interesting story.
"Excellent story - not what one expects at first."
Highly engaging. The slow transition from a semi-typical serial killer to a highly unusual supernatural thriller (based on Irish mythology and early American goth horror) worked very will surprisingly. I would not have thought so had someone cursorily told me about it, yet it does.
Gill is excellent in his performances of both of Backwell's novels. His accents are believable and he nails the nuanced vocal inflections that this text sometimes demands.
Quinn and Kate are both highly likable characters. Their goodness and edginess is a combination that works well for me.
"Brilliant and exciting!"
I would say it is my top one so far!
I felt as his narrating was superior to how I would've read it. Very good!
Outstanding story line and very well narrated. I will be listening again!
There are a lot of twist and turns that keep a hold on you. You don't want to put it down. Great book.
