Xebdigon Whizzfiddle is a wizard who has to find a quest, get it contracted, and finish it to the letter within 30 days or he'll lose his guild membership status, meaning he'll have to actually work for a living. At the perpetual age of 650, this is really no longer an option.
After interviewing countless people who are looking for a wizard to quest with, Whizzfiddle all but gives up. But then one last questing party arrives, and they're the oddest bunch he's seen in a long time - and being a wizard in the land of Ononokin, that's saying something!
They have to traverse the portals from the Upperworld to the Underworld; deal with Trolls, Ogres, Gorgans, Orcs, and, worst of all...Humans; survive the land of professional salespeople; go through the afterlife; and fight to avoid Whizzfiddle's disgruntled past-apprentice's attempts to thwart them at every turn.
Going through all of this makes Whizzfiddle wonder if maybe he shouldn't just give up magic and go back to his roots of being a farmer.

"Terry Pratchett was, and always will be, Amazing! But I think these guys are definitely worthy successors!"
Well, I would definitely recommend this book to anybody who loves the work of Sir Terry Pratchett, The master of satirical fantasy. Logsdon and Young haven't set out to copy the disk world series in any way. The only similarity really is that the setting is a fantasy world with its own rules and systems, and of course, a heavy dose of satire. But that's pretty much where the similarity ends. This new series of books brings to life a whole new cast of characters in a completely new and original way, and the narrator Jus Sargeant does a fantastic job in giving every character a very distinct and unique personality. The plot was clever, with some interesting twists and turns, and there were definitely many laughs along the way. The production value is incredibly high, no dogs barking in the background or birds singing outside the studio window. All-round a great audiobook for anybody looking for a laugh and a great fantasy listen! I would highly recommend it, and I can't wait for the next book in the series.
Loved this. After losing my hero Sir Terry Pratchet been looking for an author that could write in a similar vein. I shall now become lost in the Land of Ononokin. The narrator gave voices to the characters and brought them to life. High recommend to all disc world fanatics.
It's up there! It's funny, it's entertaining. It doesn't have dull moments, the story flows really well and there are laugh-out-loud moments in there!
The jokes come naturally, they don't feel forced. Insides jokes all over the place and it's just an overall fun book!
Give that man an Oscar! I listen to A LOT of audiobooks and this man is a MASTER! I have never listen to such a good performance! He absolutely makes this story great!
It had a few laugh out loud moments and a lot of "exhaling air through my nose real fast" moments :D
I would read it again. i listen to audiobooks in the car - I always find details can get missed meaning I never get bored re-listening.
Loved the characters. They were really diverse and fun.
My favorite bit? The final chapters probably but I guess I shouldn't give details her in case they give too much away.
I used to sit in the car for a few minutes longer at the end of every journey as I didn't want to turn the book off yet.
Funny stories. nicely read. Great combination
"Fun and Silly"
combine Xanth, Diskworld and Sci Fi and this is what you get. Fun and silly.
"Humor satire and Wizards"
A humorous story with great narration. Think Pratchett and Tolkien get pissed one night and a baby book is the result.
"Great story and presentation!"
This is a very interesting storyline and I'm looking forward to the next adventure!
The characters and situations are hilarious! Logston and Young have an enormous amount of talent and imagination. All of their other storylines are just as entertaining. I have all of their books in my library and look forward to rereading all of them.
"Good for fans of Douglas Adams & Terry Pratchett"
The late Douglas Adams and Sir Terry Pratchett can never be replaced but in their absence I was in need of more humorous stories in sci-fi/fantasy settings. The books in the Tales of Ononokin series by John P Logsdon have thus far been worth my time.
In this first installment, join Whizzfiddle the wizard as he gathers his party and goes on a quest filled with twists, turns and a few laughs along the way.
"A good read/listen."
A good natured book lite, funny and easy to get into. I would definitely recommend it and going to get another one after I finish writing this. : )
"jus Sargeant is AMAZING!"
Jus Sargeant is amazing and he brought each character to life as individual and unique beings. Such a fun story!
really enjoyed listening and really looking forward to hearing the next book in the series.
