Fire Rains from Above....
A Fracture Forms....
Jack Walker and the other survivors continue their search for others. Unbeknownst to them, the night runners have initiated their own gathering and, with Michael's leadership, they are adapting. The survivors learn about some of these adaptations and strive to stay one step ahead. Their continued existence depends on it.
Factors enter the picture which could fracture both groups. Jack fights for the survival of humankind while Michael must do the same for the night runners. Heading off to search for other remnants of humanity, Jack is unaware of the danger that lurks within the heart of the sanctuary - an act of kindness, seemingly so small, that could bring about the destruction of all he holds dear.
While both sides fight for their very survival, an infatuation arises that could destroy both of them.

"LYNN!!!!! EXCITING CLIFFHANGER!!!"
I might...its a good story....
The ending had me on the edge of my seat!
Jack of course!!!
Again this would transpire to film beautifully..there is a lot to work with!
This was good installment, not my favorite, but a good one...In this one, we find more survivors...and even ones who can sense the night runners like Jack can...and we find Lynn in supreme danger....Jack is going to lose it when he finds out!! On to book 7!!!!
"Apocalyptic fans must read!"
A great listen! An exciting ride start to finish! And John O'Brien is a genuinely nice guy! Live this series!!!
"long moments of silece..."
had some weird editing glitches. really long pauses, parts were re read, one time a part was read then after a series of finger snaps it was read again.
I really love the story. its easy to get hook into it. there are places where it repeats aometimes but it doesn't hurt the story..
"oh my God"
I loved it can't wait for the rest of the series. up till now the series has taken a very good upward progression at the End of This Book I felt as if all was going to have to start over. why won't the SAT phones work. how many are today going to lose in their community. guess it's time to purchase the next book find out.
yep fear, thats what i feel, fear that this tale will inevitably end and by that i just cant abide
"Still a Fan but Author making it a little harder"
Yes Core story and Characters are good. hard as my review I will buy all John's books he's a good story teller
Love the survival aspect and the exploring dangerous places. The least is the growing intelligence of the Night Runners.and hearing Michael and Sandra's story
Yes Mark did a good job with that, Just the voice he choose for Jack is bad and He needs to work on his ability on acting sad whenever he cried about Nic was torture.
Yes I think its a good story overall, just need to make the Night Runners like they were originally and take away the silly mental abilities and intelligence
It doesn't make sense to me that the Night Runners was a mindless primitive creature and now they can talk and send mental pictures through their mind and now two of them is smarter and controlling the rest, they wouldn't evolve that fast. It also doesn't make any sense that Michael and Sandra (night runner leaders) were regular people before they changed but now all of a sudden they are good strategist, smarter then the humans, and out thinking soldiers trained for battle and strategy. also WHY WOULDN'T ANY SOLDIERS BE POSTED AT THE GATE, SO ANYONE FROM INSIDE CAN JUST STROLL TO THE GATE AND OPEN IT AT THE MOST DANGEROUS TIME IS UNREALISTIC!!! AND MAKES NO SENSE!! it would never happen.and Sandra controlling thousands of Night Runners and instructing them to capture Lynn and ignore their primal instinct of eating the humans didn't make sense to me.
"Narrator is painful to listen to"
The narrator is painful to listen to. He narrates it like its a monster truck show. It truly is painful. I had to turn the volume down so far that sometimes I struggled to follow the story. I almost returned the book over it, but I have been reading this series for a long time now and needed it in audiobook format at this time. If the next in the series is narrated by the same person I won't continue.
"Good choice for a series"
The listener will definitely become hooked on this series as we learn more about the characters and become invested in their plight. The narration, editing and performance are improved over previous titles in the series (eg some books have pauses and repeated phrases that were not edited out). The ending is unsatisfying though- but I guess this accomplishes the writers goal to have us purchase the next in series.
"Another great addition to the series!"
Absolutely one of the best series on audible. Well narrated and keeps you on the edge of your seat all the time. You'll laugh out loud often and you feel as if you are right there with the characters. Every detail is explained and described in great detail. . you can imagine everything so clearly. Which is the mark of a good book in my eyes. Thank You John O'Brein for countless great hours of entertainment!
