Summary
One of The Times’ 25 Best Audiobooks.
HBO’s hit series A Game of Thrones is based on George R. R. Martin’s internationally best-selling series A Song of Ice and Fire, the greatest fantasy epic of the modern age. A Game of Thrones is the first volume in the series.
Summers span decades. Winter can last a lifetime. And the struggle for the Iron Throne has begun.
It will stretch from the south, where heat breeds plot, lusts and intrigues, to the vast and savage eastern lands, all the way to the frozen north, where an 800-foot wall of ice protects the kingdom from the dark forces that lie beyond. Kings and queens, knights and renegades, liars, lords and honest men...all will play the Game of Thrones.
Winter is coming....
Critic reviews
"A Game of Thrones grabs hold and won’t let go. It’s brilliant." (Robert Jordan)
"Colossal, staggering... Martin captures all the intoxicating complexity of the Wars of the Roses or Imperial Rome in his imaginary world...one of the greats of fantasy literature." (SFX)
"Fantasy literature has never shied away from grandeur, but the sheer-mind-boggling scope of this epic has sent other fantasy writers away shaking their heads.... Its ambition: to construct the Twelve Caesars of fantasy fiction, with characters so venomous they could eat the Borgias." (Guardian)

A good start to an epic saga
Well read, some enjoyably dodgy accents, and overall very engaging. I enjoyed this more than the on screen version. The descriptions are detailed and the lack of visual interference allows the story to unfold at a better pace so I found it much easier to keep track of what was going on. I’m looking forward to the next instalment.

Wrong names
The guy reading it makes quite a few mistakes, such as calling him Geoffrey instead of Joffrey etc, small mistake but happens quite often and is off putting.

Difficult to get into the story
I absolutely loved the show, the story and all the characters from Game of Thrones. However, the narrator is making it very difficult to get enthralled into this audiobook. English is my second language and I had to give this listen a second chance!
As boring as the narrator is, we must not forget that it is a difficult read with plenty of different characters. if you struggle with this audiobook, I'd suggest to persist until the end.
I am now looking forward to listen to the 2nd book.

Amazing Storyteller for a Great Story
I loved watching the TV series of Game of Thrones and wanted to see how the books differed. I love the way Roy Dotrice plays the different characters in this audiobook, I'll be getting the next book in the series next month!

A gripping story and well read
I have thoroughly enjoyed this audible book after struggling with the level of violence and sex on the screen. Although there were still some cringeworthy moments, it was a great opportunity to engage with a great story with wonderful characterisation. Thank you

Amazing!
As much as the fellas voice made me laugh at some of the lines he delivered, not to say that it was poor I’m just immature some times 👀
Fantastically read, an amazing story and I can’t wait to get into the rest!
Highly recommend to those who have watched the TV series, as we all know books do it better 😉
