Publisher's Summary

Witch Central welcomes everyone. Or does it?

Twenty months ago, Jamie and Lauren crashed a coven meeting in Chicago - a visit they barely remember. For Beth Landler, it was the moment that fractured her circle and awakened her need for an entirely different kind of magic. The kind only found in Witch Central. If she can dig up the courage to go.

<>A Different Witch is book five of the top-rated A Modern Witch series. Light contemporary fantasy with a good dose of humor, a little romance, and characters you won't want to leave.

    "Different also from the others."
If you could sum up A Different Witch in three words, what would they be?

To sum up A Different Witch in three words they would be Nell's personality transplant. This is because Nell was not herself in this book and I wanted to give her a slap. She was very self centred not her usual self. Gave the book some dissonance.

What was one of the most memorable moments of A Different Witch?

The magic in the circle done by the baby girl. But this also showed Nell's failings.

What about Martha Harmon Pardee’s performance did you like?

I love the bright and laughing voice.

Did you have an emotional reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

It made me laugh, cry and be very annoyed at Nell.

"Great story hampered by strange performance style"

I've now listened to the first 5 books and while I love the storyline, which keeps me coming back again, the narration throughout the series is very odd.
I don't know if it has been edited badly or what the issue is, but it has a very computerised and stilted feel. I had it playing on my car sound system when a friend got into my car. By the time I turned it off, my friend thought that it was being read by a computer programme and it does have that feel. It's a shame because the series is really fun.

"Another wonderful excursion into witch central"
If you could sum up A Different Witch in three words, what would they be?

    heart-wrenching, heart-felt, heart-warming

What did you like best about this story?

It delves into the souls and hearts not only of the characters in the book but the reader/listener.

It tries to teach us through an emotional roller coaster of a wonderful story that being different does not mean people are weaker, or lacking or even wanting or needing of our pity, just our acceptance

    Which scene was your favorite?

The whole book, but if i had to choose one it would be when Shay stood for Beth.

If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?

    A heart-warming emotional roller-coaster

    Any additional comments?

Like any series Debora Geary's books should be read in order to get the best enjoyment. Whilst not all are available as an audiobook yet one lives in hope.

The excellent Martha Harmon Pardee is as an essential a narrator for this series as Amanda Ronconi is to Molly Harper's audiobooks

If your books must be laced with gratuitous sex and violence, then this book/author is not for you.

If however you like rich characters that are not stereotyped but have their ups and downs, and good and bad times. Characters and stories and feelings that will remain with you long after the last page is finished then invest in some quality time with Debora's excellent books you won't regret it

"Learn to see with different eyes."
What did you love best about A Different Witch?

I have read every book Debora Gerry has ever written and love them one and all. What I love about Audible Books is that Narrator sees with different eyes so her reading the book is like a brand new book for me. I am not an empathic person I am a bit OCD and probably fit the nerd aspi described in this book but not enough to be troubled by it.

What did you like best about this story?

I learned to see the world from a different point of view. Different means different not weak.

What does Martha Harmon Pardee bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

She made the characters live in my head.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

When Shai stood up to everyone for her new friend.

    Any additional comments?

I am a hardcore Science Fiction fan and did not read Harlequin Romances. Then I had a friend recommend the author and read her first book and went on a reading binge for a week and read everything she had written. I am now a regular reader and a friend to the author. The lady is a wonderful woman, mother, and business woman. She is has become special in many ways to many people allow me to suggest you give her a chance to do so to you.

    "Wonderful Storyline!"
What made the experience of listening to A Different Witch the most enjoyable?

Two things. One, the fact that Beth (the Different Witch) had Asperger syndrome and Debora really used the story and the characters to explain that very real disorder in such a wonderful way. Two, the fact that Beth was in a loving, long term relationship with another woman. Huge Kudos for both!!!

Who was your favorite character and why?

I continue to love Nat. She is such a calming, loving personality in a world of frenzy and action.

What about Martha Harmon Pardee’s performance did you like?

As always I love Martha Harmon Pardee's reading of these stories. I go from story to story, knowing exactly who is speaking. She really brings life and personality to the characters.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

All of the Modern Witch books have had me laughing and crying. The most touching moments of this story were when the different people managed to connect, understand, and receive love.

    Any additional comments?

Audible cannot put Debora Geary's books (with Martha Harmon Pardee performing them) out fast enough to suit me. I've already downloaded the next one and am excited to hear what happens next. Thank You!!!

Sorry, I'm a curmudgeon. I've listened to this story as part of the series whenever I re-read the books. And the book isn't bad. I just think it gets a little preachy here. And sure Beth is a strong capable woman, yada yada. She's also just plain annoying.

    "Best Series - EVER!!!"

Not only was A DIFFERENT WITCH a tad different from what Ms. Geary has penned before in her Modern Witch Series but her protagonist Beth Landler is a witch who is unlike most others. In this amazing addition to her series, Ms. Geary brings us the reality of how an adult with Asperger’s deals with life in both the real world and Witch Central.

In this portion of the series, Beth is not a complete stranger. In a past book we discovered Beth and her small coven when Jamie, and Lauren had crashed their circle back in Chicago. In retrospect, Beth had discerned that visit as rather upsetting; they had come in, and arrogantly exposed some of the lesser magically inclined members, then left never to contact her again leaving Beth raw and exposed. But leaving Beth with a desire to learn more from the much more powerful witches at Witch Central.

In reading/listening to this audio Ms. Geary handled a very real and little known condition of living with Asperger’s (high functioning autism) . I confess that I had headroom Asperger’s before but truly did not understand it. After reading A DIFFERENT WITCH, I am better equipped to comprehend how difficult it is for someone to deal with this. How important it was for Beth to have that safe place when life and surroundings would overwhelm her and the importance of having that one special person to love and support her.

With a DIFFERENT WITCH - Ms. Geary penned a splendid story that while it didn’t have as many of the humorous moments I usually find in this series, it was even more emotional with the younger witches at Witch Central as well as Moira, the matriarch showing such care in treating Beth with the kindness and care which she needed.

Bottom line: Love this series and especially A DIFFERENT WITCH showing that a book can be both enjoyable and educational.

    "Wonderful series."
Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

I would recommend this whole series- the compassion and empathy with which Debora Geary writes is inspiring. She is a sensitive soul and gives that trait to the characters in her books. It is so well written.

What did you like best about this story?

She captures how hard it is for someone that is high functioning Asperger's- knowing that they are not getting social cues, and wanting to fit in so badly.

    Which scene was your favorite?

When Beth is complaining that the other witches eat like children and try to get them to eat more protein.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

All of Debora Geary's books are ones I'd like to listen to in one go, but of course, life intervenes.

    Any additional comments?

Martha Harmon Pardee is a wonderful narrator.
