Although the journey is challenging, Eckhart Tolle offers simple language in a question and answer format. The words themselves are the signposts to guide you on your journey. There are new discoveries to be made along the way: you are not your mind, you can find your way out of psychological pain, authentic human power is found by surrendering to the Now. When you become fully present and accepting of what is, you open yourself to the transforming experience of The Power of Now.

"One of the best books to come along in years. Every sentence rings with truth and power..." (Deepak Chopra)
"...a reminder to be truly present in our own lives and liberated from our past and future. It can transform your thinking." (O: The Oprah Magazine)
This book opens the door and gives a glimpse of a world I had not experienced since childhood. That of living in the present moment. A beautiful but very indepth read.
The incredible power of this book stems from the simplicity of its teachings. Tolle presents a system so simple and undebiably true that it cannot help but work. I am not so sure I would have taken so much from the written book, so the audiobook is definitely the recommended format to absorb this timeless teaching. If you do only one thing to improve your life, then make that reading this book.
I would just like to take this opportunity to thank the author for producing this book, an amazing, truly life changing experience. I recommend listening to this title in small chunks to really take in the PEARLS of WISDOM. Free yourself from your mind, find your inner happiness.
Initially not sure whether this would be any good and thought maybe other reviewers were desperately looking for something that the rest of us knew was a bit 1960's and zen like. Maybe they are - maybe not. I don't think I am but I did find this surprisingly inciteful and useful. Lots of really down to earth good advice and good philosophical (and dare I say it) spiritiual food for thought. But to reiterate: useful and pragmatic from the start. Have listened to some bits a few times as it seems to make me think of things slightly differently each time.
This book is unbelievable. Eckhart Tolle's words resonated so deeply with many of my own experiences and difficult times. He makes life seem so simple and straightforward somehow. This book is very empowering, uplifting and has real power to change lives... I plan to listen to it at least once a month to remind myself about all that is wonderful about life and the human condition. I just can't recommend it highly enough.
There is a very good reason why this book/audiobook has sold millions and it is not because of clever publishing. Eckhart Tolle is one of the great living spiritual masters alive today. I have read probably 2000 books on spiritual life and been a transpersonal psychotherapist for 30 years, alongside practising meditation and yoga for 50 years. This short book is at the top. As a wise friend said to me "He speaks FROM the truth...not ABOUT the truth. He knows. You do not have to go far on the internet to find endless confirmations of what I am saying. It can be read/listened to indefinitely and every time it is fresh, because it is a transmission of truth, not ideas and theories about truth. It is also a manual on the path to enlightenment through the practice of presence ie. being here now His instructions are crystal clear. and you won't need an interpreter to know what he is saying and how to do it. It is Eckhart Tolle himself who reads the book. Very important as the vibration of truth is in his voice as well as his words. Worth its weight in platinum.
This audiobook was great and I genuinely consider it to be life changing. Tolle's teachings made me realise the root of my anxieties and hence unhappiness.
He gets quite spiritual at times, which doesn't particularly appeal to me, but the overall message is a wonderful one and has made me appreciate 'the now'.
This was recommended to me as a book I should read. I am glad I did.
The book explains how we rush about in our daily lives, earning money and supposedly living. But how often do you sit and think about what you are doing 'now'.
I have learned to enjoy living in the 'now'
To listen to the sounds of nature and actually see nature growing.
There is so much beauty around us.
I would listen to the book again, if only to remind me, if I should forget, to live in the 'now'
The most memorable part was actually realising that I can listen and be in the present and it is peaceful and calm.
Eckhart's voice is calming. He pauses several times to allow you to take in what he is saying.
I listened to this book in 2 days. When the author told me to enjoy the moment, to listen, feel and taste the now, I felt that my life is suddenly going to be richer in experiences.
This has proved to be so in many experiences since.
This makes you put everything into perspective, and I found it truly inspiring. I definitely will be getting some more of his stuff.
If I could give something to every human being in this world it would be The Power of Now. Eckhart Tolle speaks with an authority that is so obviously from pure consciousness. I have many others in my collection, but this is the one I return to again and again. Without doubt, his words are divinely inspired.
Everyone MUST read or listen to this book. If we all did, and embraced the peacefulness within it, the world just might be a better place...
Stills the mind, gives a glimpse of sanity. I am thankful for this audio book.
Absolutely a must have...
"A Little Over My Head"
I really had to concentrate to keep up with this book. It is very interesting and thought provoking and I definitely learned a very new way to look at my world and myself. You really need a quiet place with no distractions when listening so you can absorb the message. It is one of those books that you need to read/listen to more than once to fully benefit from. I intend to do just that. Unique perspective.
This is the best book I have ever listened to...ever! Tolle has some incredible insights, and he delivers his message in a wonderfully clear, organized and tangible way. I love his modest, clear and honest way of passing information on. I have listened to this book four times in the past month and it will be something I listen to over and over again. Worth every cent! Highly recommended!
""The Power of Now" enigma"
Eckhart Tolle fame could easily one's mind very suspicious about the quality of his message. But, I must admit, here comes a surprise. The message is very simple and obvious - and expressed in sincere words. In a most concise description, the message is about the discovery of our inner consciousness, the silent "I" which is not reduced to our mind, thoughts or even our ego. He beautifully describes it as the "no-thing" the background of our thoughts and perceptions.
The discovery of the true inner center of our awareness, reveals also all negative consequences of mind domination - both on personal and also on social level. His analysis of the concept of pain-body which describes the negative emotional component of our life - is really deep. I found his basic advice we can use to wake us up very interesting - it is the attempt to live in the "now". The past, and future are mental creations. The focus on "Now" on things and thoughts that matter for presentness - opens us to the awareness of the deeper level of existence, to true being, or "is-ness".
In some sense, Eckhart Tolle rediscovers the truths well known to almost all meditational traditions of the world, however he does so in truly universal way - in language that the modern world can understand and can accept. It rediscovers what almost all religions of the world were telling us for centuries, but what was forgotten or maybe simply obstructed for many by the organizational or even political aspects of many religions. If I was about to point some weakness in his teaching it is in forgetting of the importance of unchangeable past, our freedom and grounds for moral teaching. Paradoxically if one extends his basic teaching of awareness - the foundations for these concepts are there !
Finally, even though many aspects of Tolle career are strange, he, by no means can be called "revitalized New Age mumbo jumbo" as it was done by Independent...
"Some Good Advice but Practical?"
While I agree with those who complain about the monotonous voice and poor sound quality, I was able to put that aside and really take in the audiobook. Tolle certainly has some good points about letting go of the past and not focusing on the future. And the main theme of this book is very much in line with Buddhist thinking. When the stresses of life seem overwhelming, it really does help to clear your mind, focus on the now, be present in the moment. However, for those of us who have a job, a spouse, children, parents, friends and bills to pay, this is not a way to live all the time, lest your goal in life is to be homeless and die of starvation. I would love to come across a book that helps balance the ideal of present thought and meditation with the practicality of living in the current world and all of it's influences and obligations. And certainly letting go of the past has it's place, but one should never let go of the valuable lessons learned from the past, be it your personal past or the history of mankind. To do so is not enlightenment but a cycle of ignorance where the same mistakes are repeated over and over. As for the future, we tried forgetting about the future and ended up with pollution, holes in the ozone and global warming. There needs to be a balance, an awareness that we live in the present, we've learned from the past and we must protect the future. As with any self-help book, if you feel it makes you a better person, great. Take the good from it and keep chugging along. For me, it was just OK. Good advice in certain circumstances, but not life changingly profound.
"the power of now"
I love this book
This book opened a new way of thinking for me! It really shows you that one actually creates your own sadness and pain and it can easily be changed. I recommend this book to anyone feeling stressed!
"The Power of Now"
Amazing! If more people could appreciate this audiobook, the world would change for the better.
