Dr. James Dobson has completely rewritten, updated, and expanded his classic best-seller The Strong-Willed Child for a new generation of parents and teachers. The New Strong-Willed Child follows on the heels of Dr. Dobson's phenomenal best seller Bringing Up Boys. It offers practical how-to advice on raising difficult-to-handle children and incorporates the latest research with Dr. Dobson's legendary wit and wisdom.
The New Strong-Willed Child is being rushed to press for parents needing help dealing with sibling rivalry, adhd, low self-esteem, and other important issues. This audiobook is a must-listen for parents and teachers struggling to raise and teach children who are convinced they should be able to live by their own rules!

"Answer to my prayers!"
I was referred to this book by a friend when I was about to throw the towel in on homeschooling. I was frustrated and cried daily. My son was testing me every minute of every day and my children were fighting all the time. This book had me in tears...not sad tears but years of relief! It only took 2 days to get through this wonderful book. In these past 2 days I can see a difference in my household already!!!! Thank God for this book and Mr Dobson!
The interview with the moms of strong-willed children was very helpful. I've recommended this book to many of my friends. Every child has a strong will in some senses, but some are truly more challenging and Dr. Dobson offers sound advice for us as parents.
This is a very good book. Very insightful and definitely has helped thus far. Thank you Dr. Dobson for your ministry and commitment to the family and may the Lord continue to bless you.
"a real disappointment from Dobson."
another preachy sermon that gets real off topic, raising strong willed children, and just wants you to pray. no thanks. I'm in the real world and need real solutions. let me save you the time and money, you are already doing what Dobson may suggest, and he offers no New or Helpful techniques. he mainly wants you to spank, be firm, be loving and then pray and spank some more. That's about it.
"Born again christian based"
Was disappointed by the born again view point of this book. Especially since it wasn't mentioned in the description or reviews. The introduction tells how the author beat his recalcitrant dachshund with a belt??? Later on a mother tells how she had to discipline her 5 year old daughter by putting her in the garage! Then prays over her every day asking the holy spirit for guidance. Really???
"Not what I was expecting..."
I was looking for a book that I could identify on how to raise an strong-willed child, and I could not get past chapter one.
The conversations sounded fake and rehearsed. I could not get any ideas on how this book could help me, and it mentioned too much religion. Since I am not religious, this book was not for me.
"So glad I chose the audio version!"
Wonderful book. I chose this audiobook because I was wanted different ideas for raising my daughter. After reading this I felt encouraged and empowered. My favorite chapter was with the live interviews from one of his radio shows. I thoroughly enjoyed that addition.
"Beat your kids - because that's what Jesus wants"
If it contained actual parenting advice. I can summarize it here for you so you don't have to read it: "kids misbehave because the parents don't teach them who the boss is. The way to teach them who's the boss is to spank them and grab their necks to show your dominance. All of this is substantiated in the bible." That's it. It has a strong christian streak, and so if that is your thing you might enjoy it. Or if you think the problem with kids today is that their parents didn't spank them, you might enjoy it. It literally says that if you didn't spank your kids when they were little, there is nothing you can do but reap the harvest of bad behavior that you deserve.
He spends lots of time talking about other parenting experts and why they are all hippies and liberals. Just give us some solid, definite plans on how to be a better parent instead of disparaging other authors.
Performance is fine, nothing remarkable.
I think it is always helpful to see other perspectives, especially ones you don't agree with. I don't agree with his premise, but I'm willing to change my mind if your can present a compelling argument or data. Just saying, "kids that get spanked are happier, as long as the parent controls themselves" is just too vague, and not helpful.
Fascinating! Eye-opening truths, full of wisdom and practical advice for every parent! A must read!
"Great solid book"
Dobson did a great job with this book. I really enjoyed the interview in the second chapter and the rest of the book sounded like a conversation. Very good narrator.
