Paul's letter to the Romans is arguably the greatest ever written. With these 225 messages, Piper preaches through the book - verse by verse, phrase by phrase - faithfully pointing listeners to Christ and the gospel. "The glory of Christ seems more glorious to me now than it ever has. And there is no greater exposition of the Gospel of God than the book of Romans." -John Piper
(P)2010 Desiring God Ministries
I enjoy faithful theology books. I have also enjoyed Wheel of Time series, Pratchett, Terry Broooks, Raymond Feist.
If there was a Modern Preachers who is most known for his preaching on Romans it has to be John Piper.
Piper has preached through Romans for the dureation of his ministry. A great number of years.
He is very good at cross refering the thing he is teaching on.
He is a very clear communicator.
Some of the sermons are definitely hit and miss but one thing needs to be said, these are rare indeed.
It *is* worth noting that this is not an audio book per se but rather the sermons he has preached over many many years collected into a huge audio collection [about 150 hours].
The up shot of thisis that the audio quality varies greatly. I didn't find that this affected me adversely.
If you love the Bible and love Biblical preaching, you will love this collection of Piper's sermons.
"The most complete expositional view of Romans Ever"
This is perhaps the most extensive expositional preaching of the book of Romans. It is not painstakingly slow but rather rich with challenging content. I recommend it any reformed seminary student.
"Amazing Exposition of Romans"
This is a phenomenal exposition of the book of Romans by Pastor John Piper. It is a series of sermons each about 35-45 minutes long through Paul's letter to the Romans starting with Chapter 1 verse 1 and proceeding to the end of the book. The original time taken to record this was several years (somewhere between 4 and 8), and Piper jokes about it throughout.
Piper has an amazing gift to be able to provide a thorough understanding of the text and really help understand the intent of Paul's greatest letter. Piper's teachings are both academic and pragmatic. He does not over spiritualize the topics and often provides very thoughtful illustrations and analogies to help the listener better understand complex topics.
From a technical perspective, the audio quality is great and it is a joy to listen to. The download is split into 18 parts with each sermon coming as a single chapter. This is a long series; but, it is very easy to go back and forth between them if you'd like to listen again, which you likely will.
I highly recommend this title to all those interested in a deeper understanding of the Christian faith and how it relates to its origins in Judaism, our response to Jesus as the Christ, what it means to live a holy life, and how to walk in the Spirit of God. It continues to be an extremely helpful resource in my spiritual development and is a joy to listen to during my commute or in my private study time. My understanding of the Gospel is still deepening as a result of this selection.
Bottom line: This is a true 5-star selection. At only 1 credit, this is a steal. Download it today to deepen your understanding and faith.
"Well Worth a Month's Credit"
If you want to save a credit you can download every single sermon in this series from Dr. Piper's website. However, it was well worth a credit to be able to download all 8 years worth of sermons at one time and have them consolidated and sorted in Audible. For a christian, these sermons are game changers, truly eye opening and life changing. Rarely has any pastor or theologian presented the greatest of all the epistles in such a clear and profound manner - dutifully explaining the sophisticated theology in a way that any layman can understand while at the same time revealing the every day life application of this book. If you've put your faith in the Gospel, this is a book you need to know and there's no better expositor then John Piper.
"Passionate Preaching for every person"
Recommend to everyone who loves Jesus and to those who are seeking the truth. Very well preached.
"Great series of messages"
I love the Book of Romans and this is one of the best series of messages on that great book. John Piper brings the story to the listener with insights through the scriptures.
I only started listening to him in the past several months and have found him to be one of better pastor-teachers that I have heard.
Emotion, his personal point of view which is backed up by scripture.
"The Glory of God"
This is one of the best audiobooks I have purchased thus far. John Piper is a powerful preacher, and it is very spiritually enriching to listen to this audiobook of his sermon on Romans every day during my commute.
He really drives home the magnitude of the glory of God. I am still listening to the audiobook (as it is over 150hrs long), but I am humbled and left in awe and the glory of our God after listening to these sermons
Haha, no, definitely not a one sitting book. Way to deep and thought-provoking to just sit and listen all day.
If you are seeking 'Truth' concerning the Word of God...then listen to Rev John Piper. It is NOT about him, it is about God...all the way. I believe he is one of the most gifted, enlightened Teachers of the past and present century! This is deep.
Hebrews by John Piper
A must for everyone.
"Not an actual book, just a collection of sermons."
An actual audio book format and not a collections of sermons. The speaking style was distracting and the recording was low quality.
The recording style could have been different.
The way he speaks/preaches is distracting.
No characters, but the author's personal life could have been left out.
"Preaching Style is Distracting"
I'm probably very spoiled by my own pastor at church, and with that said John Piper's preaching style does not excite me at all. He constantly drifts into these dramatic emotional voices that I feel really distract from his message. If I did not appreciate the message, I would have given it 1 star. But I would not call this audio book enjoyable. If the first few sermons are a good sample of what the rest of this audio book will be, I feel like it will be a challenge to listen to the whole thing and discern the spiritual value. If you want the theology of Romans taught with lots of verbal emotion, this book might work for you.
