Keep It Shut by Karen Ehman explores how to better control your tongue, knowing what to say and how to say it, and realizing when it is best to say nothing at all. From Bible times to modern times women have struggled with their words. What to say and how to say it. What not to say. When it is best to remain silent. And what to do when you've said something you wish you could now take back.
In this audiobook, a woman whose mouth has gotten her into loads of trouble shares the hows (and how-not-tos) of dealing with the tongue. Beyond just a "how not to gossip" book, this book explores what the Bible says about the many ways we are to use our words and the times when we are to remain silent. Karen will cover using our speech to interact with friends, co-workers, family, and strangers as well as in the many places we use our words in private, in public, online, and in prayer. Even the words we say silently to ourselves. She will address unsolicited opinion-slinging, speaking the truth in love, not saying words just to people-please, and dealing with our verbal anger. Christian women struggle with their mouths. Even though we know that Scripture has much to say about how we are - and are not - to use our words, this is still an immense issue, causing heartache and strain not only in family relationships, but also in friendships, work, and church settings.

I was expecting to read as the title suggested... When to speak, when not to speak and what to say. Instead the book does not go deep enough in the subject, does not give enough examples and situations. In reality, for me it was like a quotation of the Bibles and sometimes quite repetitive. That is a shame because the subject of the book was quite what i need sometime :)... The 5 extra seconds.
"God Truly Inspired This Woman!"
This has been a wonderful journey for me and my Bible study. Keep It Shut is jam packed with Bible verses and life experiences to make it easy to relate to and remind you of what is truly important. I have already seen great results in my daily speech and I have become more mindful of the impact of my words. I think everyone should read this book it really helps you to be a better communicator and friend.
This book is fantastic. (I purchased the audible version.) It was hard to take at times, as I had to come to terms with the fact that I have a lot of work to do in regarding the words that come out of my mouth. Yes, I speak the truth, but as the author said, Just because it's true doesn't mean it needs to be spoken. Even when my intentions are pure, sometimes it's best just to zip my lip! :) I absolutely believe that God used this book to speak to me and help me move forward in my journey, more aware and better able to represent and glorify Him with the words I speak.
"Excellent - Even for us typically quiet folks!"
This book is constantly at the top of my recommendations to people. Karen is candid, funny, and oh so convicting. I'm naturally a quiet person so I initially didn't think I'd get much out of it but boy was I wrong! This book is for everyone.
This was my first time listening to a book narrated by Julie. She was excellent! I thoroughly enjoyed her performance. No complaints here!
I laughed, I cried, I prayed, and I listened to it again. This is one of those books I'll be listening to regularly.
The book basically repeats the mantra that you should keep quiet and pray if you don't have anything nice to say over and over.
No Bible citations. More strategies for holding your tongue or better ways to phrase things.
"Loved this book!"
Very convicting and helpful. If you struggle with your heart, mind, and tongue this book is for you.
"One of my new fave books!"
I would totally listen to this again...and most likely I'll have to buy the actual book to refer to from time to time.
Haven't read anything like it.
Great, practical tips on curbing the words that will get you in trouble.
Awesome book and narration was great! all women should listen to this at some point!
"Wonderful Helpful Book and reading"
Loved the book... So very helpful I recommend.. Following the examples and taking notes for reflection.
So apropos in a time of. frequent unthinking unkindness and over sharing...
Encouraging to remember that with God's help and guidance we can change and become more like Christ.
"Read, great advice for anyone!"
I really enjoyed this book. I thought the lady had too much s sound in her voice, that made it difficult, but if you ignore that... The delivery and the overall general message is really good.
Any person struggling with this kind of situation and how to talk to somebody could benefit from the recommendations in this book.
