Publisher's Summary

Twisted Triangle is the first complete narrative thriller about the sensational story of Margo Bennett, a married FBI agent who had a love affair with best-selling author Patricia Cornwell and whose jealous husband, Gene Bennet, a superstar FBI undercover agent, kidnapped and attempted to murder her. When the case first came to trial, it was reported in Vanity Fair, Newsweek, People, The Washington Post, and The New York Times.

Almost every profile of Cornwell, written in the United States and abroad every time she releases a book, mentions this case and her relationship with Bennett. Margo was also the inspiration for the heroine in Hostage Negotiator, a 2001 TV movie.

Opening up for the first time, Bennett has given Caitlin Rother complete personal access, sitting for interviews and turning over photographs, documents, records, and private papers. Twisted Triangle includes the crazy dynamics of Margo and Gene Bennett's family; the brilliant FBI undercover career of Margo's husband, Gene; the lesbian affair with celebrity author Pat Cornwell; Gene's reactive kidnapping and attempt to kill Margo; Gene's insanity defense; the trial that validates Margo's story and shows she was telling the truth all along; and a happy ending to her tale of survival.

    "Great book"

Good story line, good narrater, good author! Would definitely recommend. Having been slightly disappointed with my last two audiobooks, I was really happy to find one I could really get into. Finished this book within 2 days as I felt my self wanted to listen to it at any chance I got.

    "Gripping and soul-searching"

This book is very well read and provides a vivid insight into a family in a downward spiral and the amazing fortitude of a mother, who gives body and soul to save her children. There are many lessons here and it will be, in my opinion, a book that will live with you for a long time.

    "Truth is stranger than fiction!"

I thought this story had many unexpected twists and turns -- and takes you inside the mind of a husband spurned. But not just any husband! A cunning husband with FBI training and the power to carry out multiple murder attempts.

If you thought your divorce was messy -- wait until you read this! It was a true crime roller coaster ride that kept me on the edge of my seat. I've read a lot of true crime and this is one of the more fascinating stories I'd read in a long time.

    "Who are these people?"

If you are looking for a thrilling story of cunning and intelligent FBI agents caught up in a twisted love triangle that turns bad, then look again. Maybe because this story takes place in the 1980s and socially things are different now, but instead of keeping me on the edge of my seat, it keeps me sitting back thinking "How dumb can they be?" and "What is wrong with these people?" I do sympathize with the main character because of what she went through, but I can not believe a trained FBI agent could make so many mistakes. If you find out that your husband, an undercover FBI agent who excels in living a double life for his job and getting into harm's way and dealing with dangerous people, wants to scam the FBI for money and is working with one of his informants in a shady "jewelry business", you should then question his sanity and morality, not after he kidnaps you. The only thing this has going for it is that it is a true story otherwise, with the narrator's delivery, it comes off as a cheesy movie of the week.

It was promising - but parts of it was quite boring (hate that word but can't think of another word).
    It was okay.

"This story was so bizarre it had to be true"
Would you listen to Twisted Triangle again? Why?

No, because I was so upset with the husbands actions, and the way the legal system treated Margo. If I listened again I would just be upset the whole time.

What was the most compelling aspect of this narrative?

The length to which a one individual would go to get their way and prove a point.

What does Laural Merlington bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

The emotion of Margo Bennett that was conveyed in her voice

If you could sum up Twisted Triangle in three words, what would they be?

I actually purchased this book by accident because I wasn't paying attention. I'm only half way through and I'm enjoying the story. Had to get used to the reader, but being a fan of Patricia Cornwell and Kay Scarpetta, I found myself intrigued and feeling like I had an

I am not sure if it is the writing or the narration, but this book sounds like the court recorder is reading you an official transcript. The story itself is somewhat interesting but the delivery is very lackluster.
