How a doctor's glimpses of eternity confirmed everything he believed about God, suffering, life on Earth, and what happens after death.
Dr. Chauncey Crandall knows his patients well. When they are dying, he sits at the bedside with them and holds their hands. He prays with them. Sometimes he can feel what they feel and see what they see. At other times his patients have near-death experiences and "come back" with astonishing descriptions of the afterlife. In Touching Heaven, Dr. Crandall reveals how what he has seen and heard has convinced him that God is real, that we are created for a divine purpose, that death is not the end, that we will see our departed loved ones again, and that we are closer to the next world than we think.

Once I got over the way the audio story was read (a little robotic for me) I enjoyed listening to this, at times heartbreaking, account of this Drs experience of faith and his journey. At times it brought me to tears, it made me question the strength of my own faith and it made me glad I have belief in someone/something greater.
"An Encouraging Book"
I found this book to be highly encouraging and motivating for me to read the Bible more, praise more, and pray more. Much of what the author says will be difficult for the average person to believe because of the nature of the experiences. You will have to reason he is either a liar, delusional, or telling the truth. I believe he is telling the truth. I am not a Pentecostal nor go to such a church, but I found what the author said to be very in line with Scripture. In fact the author quotes a great deal of Scripture. As in all things, the Christian must make sure everything lines up with Scripture and sound exogesis.
The author speaks a great deal about his interactions with patients who have died and come back. He also speaks a great deal about spiritual encounters in his practice and ministry life. It is worth noting that there was not a great deal stated about what people saw or experienced when they died and came back, although that is touched on. The book really is more on the authors perspective and his interactions with people.
The book also focus's on the authors son who passed on, and the authors journey and experience through that. There are many encouraging events that the author and his family went through and saw and I felt reading this book lifted me up in my faith. I would recommend this book.
"Amazing, inspiring, life changing"
This amazing book, both stretches and exhorts any person who dares to read it, in their walk with God. My life will, by God's grace, be forever changed. I plan to listen again!
"Praise be to Heaven"
I totally agree that Dr. Crandall has had a spiritual awakening and support his freedom to evangelize his commitment to Jesus and the Holy Spirit. However I think he used too many biblical references in this book to support his story. For someone who may not be a born again Christian, this is overwhelming. This is what turned me off on reading more than the first couple of chapters.
Some more training in reading aloud. Some of the time he seemed stunted in they way he read the prose.
Loved it! So heartwarming and thought provoking. A professional doctor who isn't afraid of political correctness and prays FOR his patients by laying on off hands. Just like in the days of the physician Luke.
"POWERFUL SOLID THEOLOGY AND SCIENCE"
You will rarely find a balanced combination of demonstrative theology and science like this. On the deistic matter, demonstration of how the Jesus' time and 1st century church signs and miracles could still be striving nowadays in some places of our planet. On the scientific realm, the enigmatic NDEs (Near Death Experiences) with afterlife accounts, told by "formerly" expired people, whose background range anything in between the God-haters to the God-fearing , with tangible and provable evidence of events not explainable by simple reasoning, all of which keeps us asking for more. The tragic death of his beloved son Chad after his initial outstanding return to life, brings a personal story we can relate to and share tears with.
Wow! Definitely something that needs to be listened to! I recommend this to anyone who seeks answers and want to find God.
"Very Uplifting and Encouraging."
It awakened my heart and my spirit to receive the gift of eternal life from God, our Lord and Savior.
"Touched my heart!"
I enjoyed this book.Life changing stories. I plan to
continue to listen and utilize some examples in Bible study.
"Very, very religious in a Christian bent. Not bad."
Maybe. I was looking for an NDE/Afterlife book for proof of an afterlife via a doctor who has seen death and could talk about death in a way that would prove an afterlife. This is NOT that book, This book is very heavy on Christian scripture. I liked the book because I like to read all ways of thinking, but if you're not 'born again' as I'm not, it can seem very, very heavy on the author's particular theology. I like that he's a cardiologist, and that he says he's a skeptic, but there is a LOT of Bible stuff in here. If that's your thing, and you already believe, this is probably going to help you a lot. I hope it does.
If you are unsure, this book probably won't convert or soothe you. This book is best for 'born again' Christians who already believe in the author's way of thinking.I thought about returning it, but didn't. The author is clearly smart, thoughtful, and entrenched in his way of thinking. I'll keep the book and refer to it when thinking about 'born again' Christians vis a vis an afterlife.
I don't know. I have not read the book.
I don't go to many movies.
I have read many books on the afterlife. Haven't found a single book I resonate to. Hope I do.
