Publisher's Summary

Things No One Will Tell Fat Girls is a manifesto and call to arms for women of all sizes and ages. With smart and sassy eloquence, veteran blogger Jes M. Baker calls on women to be proud of their bodies, fight against fat shaming, and embrace a body-positive worldview to change public perceptions and help women maintain mental health. With the same straightforward tone that catapulted her to national attention when she wrote a public letter addressing the sexist comments of Abercrombie & Fitch's CEO, Jes shares personal experiences along with in-depth research in a way that is approachable, digestible, and empowering. Featuring notable guest authors, Things No One Will Tell Fat Girls is an invitation for all women to reject fat prejudice, learn to love their bodies, and join one of the most progressive and life-changing revolutions in the world.

It was fun hearing this book but I disagreed with some points. I liked the way the writer was reading her book.

    "save time. buy the book."

this was really wordy. I felt like it was a lot of lists and she reads fairly slowly. Not really a book that I would ever listen to again. If i had bought a physical copy I am sure that I would use it at some point as a reference. but unfortunately this was not a book that I can say was worth the time to listen to. The information wasnt life changing. but it was interesting enough that I kept going. after a while though I got annoyed with the way the author writes.

If you want to read this I would only recommend a physical copy.

    "Yes, Yes, Yes!"

For the first time, someone has said everything that I have thought or felt. No, I don't want to wear black every chance I get with a "pop of color" so I don't completely disappear into the woodwork. No, I don't want to cover my arms in the 100 degree heat. No, I don't want to listen to you complain about how miserable and fat you are every day of the week when you're 120 lbs soaking wet I am fat and NEVER complain about my weight. No, I don't want to go to Target and shop in the "Pluternity Overflow" department. No, I don't live solely to make everyone around me happy and guess what? I'm pretty god damn fine with that. Thank you, Jes. You're a badass and I appreciate you taking the stand that few of us could. I'm happy with who I am, fat and all. Fuck the haters.

    "I really needed this."

I really needed this book. I was sad when I got to the end. I just might read it again. Jes Baker is inspiring and eye opening and fun. I have a new.... better attitude. I have a new found love and appreciation for my body, just as it is. I want to take good care of my body because I love it! Not because I hate it and want to change it. This moment is my life. I don't have to wait until I reach my goal wait to start living my life. This is it. I'm living it now. I'm enjoying it NOW. Fat, thin, average, male or female, this is a good read.

"Taking Body Love to a Different Level"
Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

Yes, I have actually recommended it. Especially to my friends (who like me) are in recovery.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

The second chapter particularly hit a nerve, actually living your life now and not waiting for some particular event to start living.

    "Meh."

    This book was okay.

Pros: I very much agreed with a ton of what Jes had to say. Yes to body positivity. Yes to doing all the things. F- the media and it's narrow definition of beauty and worth. Know your worth as a human being on this planet. Take selfies, have hot sex, go running, wear a bikini, yes yes yes. F- diet culture. Feel beautiful and worthy at any size. Love your body at any size.

Cons: This book was a little campy and read like a young adult book at times (a YA book I would never recommend to a young adult due to the section on health and doctors. Fat around your heart can cause issues. Diabetes is a thing. There's nothing wrong with wanting to eat salad and exercise and keeping your body at a size that YOU are comfortable with as long as it's done with a healthy mind set.). At times the book was a little all over the place, contradictory and repetitive. It was definitely very preachy at times and, I really hate to say this, a little overly sensitive. I'm okay with the word pretty. I'm okay with not wanting to be naked to make a point. I like wearing flattering outfits. You can be slim, exercise and wear makeup and high heels and be a feminist. Some things were just a little too much and overreaching and preachy.

The overall message of this book was good but...meh...

    "Life Changing"

This book will forever be special to me. This was my first body positive book. Hearing Jes tell her story and preach on many occasions was incredible and inspiring. The best part about this book is that it is actually intersectional. I was worried that some of the body positive books would not be, but Jes does a great job at highlighting a variety of voices while remaining authentic to her own. For any girl who has body dysmorphia this book is something we need. I am so grateful it came into my life when I needed it the most.

    "MUCH NEEDED RHETORIC"
Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

Absolutely! Jes Baker goes beyond the everyday "we are all people" rhetoric. She talks facts and numbers as well. She's is explicit about the detriments of body shaming on our economy, health, and society and is uplifting as she does it.

Who was your favorite character and why?

I loved that Jes highlighted other pioneers in the body positivity movement, and even speaks of her own pitfalls and learning moments.

What about Jes M. Baker’s performance did you like?

Her inclusive vocabulary, and her matter-of-fact tone. 0 fucks given!
