In The Greatest Show on Earth, Richard Dawkins takes on creationists, including followers of 'Intelligent Design' and all those who question the fact of evolution through natural selection. Like a detective arriving on the scene of a crime, he sifts through fascinating layers of scientific facts and disciplines to build a cast-iron case: from the living examples of natural selection in birds and insects; the 'time clocks' of trees and radioactive dating that calibrate a timescale for evolution; the fossil record and the traces of our earliest ancestors; to confirmation from molecular biology and genetics. All of this, and much more, bears witness to the truth of evolution.
The Greatest Show on Earth comes at a critical time: systematic opposition to the fact of evolution is now flourishing as never before, especially in America. In Britain and elsewhere in the world, teachers witness insidious attempts to undermine the status of science in their classrooms. Richard Dawkins provides unequivocal evidence that boldly and comprehensively rebuts such nonsense. At the same time he shares with us his palpable love of the natural world and the essential role that science plays in its interpretation. Written with elegance, wit and passion, it is hard-hitting, absorbing and totally convincing.

This is a very informative book and the narration by Richard Dawkins and Lalla Ward is very clear. Richard lays out the facts of our understanding of evolution in a clear and precise way, and at just the right pace so that you don't need to be a biologist to follow the reasoning.
This book is packed with interesting and relevant facts that will delight and amaze believers and non-believers alike (believers in evolution, that is). If you are a creationist, you won't be by the end of this book.
Dawkins and Ward bring to life the complexities of Evolution in powerful and moving layman's terms. Together, they take aim at and destroy, arguements for creationism and intellegent design. While they are doing this they show that science does not reduce nature to boring facts but makes it all the more astonishing and beautiful
I'll be fair I was allready on Dawkins side of thinking before I listened to this book.but I was so surprised how the book made me think about other aspects of religion.I don't want to give anything away about the content here but a super listen and very well read, one of my favourite books which I can thoroughly recommend.
This was the first book of Richard Dawkins I ever listened to. I was riveted and have subsequently gone out and listened to others of his. The book is told in a very thorough, clear and concise way that keeps you hooked. There are going to be people who will not like this book because it does not suit their personal beliefs. To those people I challenge you to listen. If your faith is strong, you have nothing to worry about. If it isn't, this will help you understand why you have doubts. To those of you who have no issue with evolution, this is a must as it clearly sets out why the fact of evolution is so indisputable. The reading, done by Richard Dawkins and Lalla Ward is excellent. I cannot rate this book highly enough.
Helps arm you with the right knowledge to defend evolution and debate with reason on religion. An excellent tool and a must listen to audio book for anyone with questions or curious about the subject.
I truly loved this book.
It is witty yet informative, amusing but serious.
I'd even recommend it to religious types....after all, how can one claim to be right when they only know one side of a story?
