"If there were a Guinness Book of World Records entry for 'amount of times having prayed the sinner's prayer', I'm pretty sure I'd be a top contender," says pastor and author J. D. Greear. He struggled for many years to gain an assurance of salvation and eventually learned he was not alone. "Lack of assurance" is epidemic among evangelical Christians.
In Stop Asking Jesus Into Your Heart, J. D. shows that faulty ways of presenting the gospel are a leading source of the confusion. Our presentations may not be heretical, but they are sometimes misleading. The idea of "asking Jesus into your heart" or "giving your life to Jesus" often gives false assurance to those who are not saved - and keeps those who genuinely are saved from fully embracing that reality.
Greear unpacks the doctrine of assurance, showing that salvation is a posture we take to the promise of God in Christ, a posture that begins at a certain point and is maintained for the rest of our lives. He also answers the tough questions about assurance: What exactly is faith? What is repentance? Why are there so many warnings that seem to imply we can lose our salvation?

"Follows the scriptures"
This is a excellent book for anyone who has ever wanted assurance of salvation. It provides scriptures and good explanations of what they mean and I felt like I was listening to a author who is truly inspired. The book will be helpful to anyone who loves Jesus and yearns to know Him better.
The scriptures I had wondered about and he explained them to me.
"Strength for the Wobbly Kneed Christian!"
As a born again, blood bought believer in my Lord Jesus Christ, I have honestly, over the years, struggled with assurance of Salvation. I know my sin all too well and there are forces that are really happy about that! I've read/listened to a couple of books on this subject and find, that I am not alone. J.D. shared with us about his struggle with assurance in the past and masterfully combed through the Scriptures to give us proof that we CAN know if we are Saved. (And also, some warnings about false conversions)
I came away with peace and I am so thankful for this book. It helped lead me to know that God has saved me through the blood of His Son, and I can rest in Him. There's nothing I can do, it's in the strong, loving Hands of my Lord.
J.D. has a great sense of humor and Tom Parks (narrator) did a wonderful job of capturing Pastor Greear's personality and comedic timing. While this is not a comedy, at all.... J.D. Greear apparently has a really fun way of telling stories and while the subject matter of the book was very serious, there was some comic relief. Tom Parks did a great job bringing that out in his narration.
Overall, I highly recommend this for anyone who is struggling with Assurance of Salvation... and also for those who may have "professed Christ" but doesn't "possess Christ"....
Blessings to all!
