Summary
Audie Award Finalist, Business/Educational, 2014
Once considered tedious, the field of statistics is rapidly evolving into a discipline Hal Varian, chief economist at Google, has actually called "sexy". From batting averages and political polls to game shows and medical research, the real-world application of statistics continues to grow by leaps and bounds. How can we catch schools that cheat on standardized tests? How does Netflix know which movies you'll like? What is causing the rising incidence of autism? As best-selling author Charles Wheelan shows us in Naked Statistics, the right data and a few well-chosen statistical tools can help us answer these questions and more.
For those who slept through Stats 101, this book is a lifesaver. Wheelan strips away the arcane and technical details and focuses on the underlying intuition that drives statistical analysis. He clarifies key concepts such as inference, correlation, and regression analysis, reveals how biased or careless parties can manipulate or misrepresent data, and shows us how brilliant and creative researchers are exploiting the valuable data from natural experiments to tackle thorny questions.
You’ll encounter clever Schlitz Beer marketers leveraging basic probability, an International Sausage Festival illuminating the tenets of the central limit theorem, and a head-scratching choice from the famous game show Let’s Make a Deal - and you’ll come away with insights each time. With the wit, accessibility, and sheer fun that turned Naked Economics into a best seller, Wheelan defies the odds yet again by bringing another essential, formerly unglamorous discipline to life.

"as you can see above"...
books that rely on graphics should come with a cautionary warning. Narrator kept referring to graphs I couldn't see

An accessible introduction
When I first started listening I really didn't understand the subject. By the time I got to the end, I found myself nodding at concepts - which I've since applied to my assignments.
It worked well for me and I will listen again when I have time.

Great for getting interested in data science
Not so good for actually learning to do it, but that seems to be the intention so can’t mark down for that.
Most importantly, this is a legit book that is rated well on GoodReads and not just full of fake reviews like 99% of audible books.

Exceptional...
However, I must add, it is not for the faint hearted. I work with statistics and I had to stop what I was doing and really listen to some parts, this book really does put statistics into context and there are some excellent quotes I have already shared.
For non-statisticians this book may be a little much to digest. although, you do not need to understand all of the figures and jargon to appreciate the key message, that is data and statistics is more important now than it has ever been.

clear and easy to understand, fundamentals of stat
Enjoyable, easy listening for anyone seeking an overview and understanding of how statistics work, how useful they are, and how dangerous they can be.
If you already understand statistics and are looking for a deep dive, this may not be the book for you.

Interesting but wanted more
Lots of examples given and I'm pleased I now understand what regression analysis is. But I was kind of hoping that I'd also understand ANOVA and T tests and parametric versus non parametric.... All terms I was taught at uni but never understood.

Very well presented
It isn’t possible to make statistics genuinely easy to grasp, but this book does a good job trying.
