Demons, devils, and desecration. Places to see the dead. True stories.

I like to kid myself that I don't scare easily - I'm wrong of course, but I don't think I have encountered as scary an audio book as the Grisly Tales series (particularly volume 2, hence the review here). Graphic, violent and often horrific from the start, this is a set of radio programs bundled together into 3 and a half hour chunks that document what Alan Robson believes, after extensive research and often personal experience, are true accounts of supernatural experiences and events (ghosts, poltergeists, and demons). I think of myself as fairly open minded in this regard, but at the same time, I'm not prepared to accept everything at only face value, with so many faked accounts over the years. I'm a bit ashamed to admit I was sometimes a bit sceptical as to some of the accounts - but ultimately, I'm not so arrogant as to think I can know everything that's ever happened anywhere, and, true or not, it makes for a very interesting and genuinely scary listen.
Robson sets out in his narration to make each account in to a sort of story structure, embellishing just enough to give you an idea as to the circumstances that accompany each - for example, he'll set the scene enough so, if you're listening to an account of a druid attack on a fisherman and his family, he'll describe what the terrain, the lifestyle and the commonly held beliefs and practices of the time were. He graphically describes the documented violence with a detail that may not be present in the account, but he doesn't do so to invent content, only to make it an involving listen. At least, that's my view. I'm not saying he makes this stuff up. As I said, I can't know.
I'd say definitely worth a try, and whether you're prepared to accept it as real or not, it's an absorbing and informative listen.
