A pleasure to listen to

I recommend this audiobook for any learner of French at the intermediate level. It takes you through 7 stories that use a variety of words that are higher-level, yet not too difficult to deduce and understand. The accompanying PDF file of the recording is very helpful for getting a grasp of syntax at this level, clarifying what was said, and also provides a glossary of words and phrases. Additional written exercise are also available in the file. The female recording teaches the words directly as part of the narration, but the male recording only goes through the stories. The speed of narration can be changed in the player, but the male narrator has also recorded a slower version as well as a regular version to aid with comprehension. The stories themselves are fairly straightforward, though they're written very well and you will quickly fall in love with Robin, Sandrine and Arnaud.

A lot of thought went into this book

It’s obvious to me how much thought and love the team put into compiling these short stories. It is very important to download the PDF and follow the instructions on it. I guarantee you, you will learn a lot. I just completed one of the stories. After listening a few times, I went through all the new vocabulary and then wrote the summary, as recommended. Not only did this introduce me to a lot of very useful vocabulary, it also helped me consolidate my knowledge of it by writing the summary and then listening again. I am sure these new words are now saved in my long term memory. I can thoroughly recommend. Well done !

Improve french pronunciation

This is exactly what I was looking for. I have some beginning knowledge of French and wanted stories I could listen to, so that I can improve my pronunciation. This audio is separated into individual stories, each with a normal and slow reading pace which really helps tremendously!

Amazing audio book.

Audio book is amazing and I will definitely recommend to all my working colleagues.French was my second language during my school days and I haven't concentrated much and I Just know the basics.During my last month trip to France I managed with basics but still struggled a lot in using the transport. After completing all the chapters my confidence has increased a lot and able to talk with my colleagues with out thinking for the next word.Audio is very clear and liked the way they translated in English. Chapters are very much interesting and helped me to improve a lot.I would suggest to pause in between so that It will be easy for the learners and no need to replay to listen again.

Great for bridging the gap!

This audiobook was really great for improving my French. As someone born in a different country to my parents, my French had been out of touch for a while. This was a good boost to my confidence and at strengthening the French I had already gleamed from family. The introduction was very clear in explaining the aims of the book and how to use it to get the best from it. The words of the book were read at a good pace and a clear accent. With a range of stories from Sixth Form schools to picnics and holidays integrated with vocabulary recaps - I would definitely recommend this book.

Engaging, well-structured and easy to learn from.

What did you like most about French: Short Stories for Intermediate Level?

I studied French (from beginner to intermediate) at an online university Scotland. Since everything was online, I never really had the chance to practice speaking. Moreover, the audio I learned from was always straight forward grammar lessons, so it was not very engaging. It had been a couple years since studying and my French had gotten pretty rusty, so I got "French Short Stories for Intermediate Level" to get back into it. This book has really added to my spoken French, lexical repertoire and understanding of grammar. I felt the structure was excellent, both how new phrases and words are covered after every story and how each story is narrated three times as different rates. I could then listen to the slow versions and read along with the narrator, which helped me obtain a grasp of speaking more fluidly. I could then go on to a different speed, which was exciting. What's also great is the variety of new phrases I learned from the book. They are very useful for everyday conversation; for example "Je n’irai pas jusqu’à dire que" and "Tant mieux alors"!

Overall, I would highly recommend this audio book if you are looking to sharpen up your vocabulary and spoken French.

It is fun to learn through stories!

Great learning format but stories so boring

I am definitely improving using this format (I listen while refering to the PDF), but the stories are just too brutally dull.. Do another version of fairy tales, Arabian nights, or maybe invented discussions between historical figures...

Took me back to my GCSE French class!

Having studied French to GCSE level twelve years ago, I was intrigued to find out what I’d remember.

First off, when it comes to learning any language whether its Japanese or South Afrikaan, being able to listen and understand the language is just as, if not more important than verbal abilities. Thankfully, the short stories narrated b Frederic Bibard and Mariem Nouni are spoken slowly enough to grasp the topic and gain a sound understanding of the language; in terms of pronunciation and grammar.

I’d recommend this title to any French enthusiast with a basic knowledge of the language interested in strengthening their skills in the language.

Great collection of French stories

This audio book contains 7 french stories read in a clear, slow voice. It also contains vocab recaps after each story which are useful for going over new words again.
I would highly suggest going to your audible library on a pc/laptop and downloading the accompanying PDF (I couldn't do this in the app) as it provides the whole text and some translations. It also contains some exercises if you want them.
However unless you are comfortable listening to at least basic French, I would start on something a bit easier as the stories are solid French.

Excellent Tool for Revison

I have listened to most of the chapters in this audiobook, and after my experience in learning French in high school, I really wish I had this back then! The scripts for each chapter are varied, which will develop your French vocabulary, and as I mentioned this is a great tool for revison! It is at around a National 5 (GCSE) level and will help you with revison for your listening exam, and will also develop your vocab for the writing exam. I give it 5 stars for revision of your French, highly recommend!
