After Eric Davis spent over 16 years in the military, including a decade in the SEAL teams, his family was more than used to his absence on deployments and secret missions that could obscure his whereabouts for months at a time. Without a father figure in his own life since the age of 15, Eric was desperate to maintain the bonds he'd fought so hard to forge when his children were young - particularly with his son, Jason, because he knew how difficult it was to face the challenge of becoming a man on one's own. Unfortunately Eric learned the hard way that quality time doesn't always show up in quantity time.
Facebook, television, phones, video games, school, jobs, friends - they all got in the way of a real, meaningful father-son relationship. It was time to take action.
As a SEAL, Eric learned to innovate and push boundaries, allowing him to function at levels beyond what was expected, comfortable, ordinary, and even imaginable, and he knew that as a father he needed to do the same with his son. Meeting extreme with extreme was the only answer.
Using a unique blend of discipline, leadership, adventure, and grace, Eric and his SEAL brothers will teach you how to connect and reconnect with your sons and learn how to raise real men - the Navy SEAL way.

"Couldn't take the narrator"
I listened for the first part of the book but simply could not take the narrator's voice or style. I still believe the book may have promise so I may pick up a hard copy.
"Amazing, insightful, funny and humbling."
Absolutely. It was entertaining and sniper focused. I will be a better father because of this book. Great food for thought and I was amazed at how many times I burst out laughing. Similarly, my father wasn't in the picture and I could relate to what Eric was saying. This book gives solid perspective on how to be a great father. In fact, after reading the first chapter and when I got home from work, I noticed I was already becoming a better dad.
Eric of course. I love how he, his wife, his ex wife and her husband are all on the same team when raising the kids. I appreciate the humor, the tell it like it is attitude and the sniper shot right between the eyes perspective when calling me out on my priorities and raising my boys.
This is my first time listening to Peter. I didn't think I'd like the voice at the beginning, but he is right on the money. Great job.
Very funny. Surprised at how many times I burst out laughing.
Great job Eric. The ripple affects of this book will be seen by generations.
"Life Changing for every Father"
It doesn't matter how old your son is - this book is for you. Not only has it helped me be a better father, these principals taught me to be a better husband and even saved my marriage.
It's incredibly informative and hilarious at the same time.
When I was growing up... Me and my brothers we merely managed. We weren't taught the principles of life (I now know why).
In my current profession, a common saying is to meet the patient where they're at. Having prior combat knowledge, I can relate to these principles and apply them easily.
Principles are principles and combat simply accelerates the learning curve. I hope if you're considering this book to take the time to not only read this book, but to slowly apply the concepts you read. Chances are - if you are considering this book, you strive to be excellent in everything you do.
This is an investment for you and your family. I highly recommend this book from one father to another.
"Changed my life!"
Absolutely! Such straight forward, compassionate, principled advise to living a good life, and being the best parent you can be.
Humble beginnings and the making of a modern MAN.
I actually didn't like Peter's country dialect... knowing that Eric was raised in southern California.
Other than that, great performance.
Made me THINK about how I interact with my kids.
Certainly tailored for the male audience, but life lessons for everyone.
Why does he sound like a Bond villain reading? Good book but he made it almost unbareable to listen to
"Must read for moms and dads!!!"
Great book for parenting and life!!! Lessons to use as a dad and in business! Awesome book!
"Parenting On Purpose!!"
Man up...your family deserves it! Let this book put the fire in your gut and the balls to start parenting on purpose!!
Eric Davis is a subject matter expert in multiple areas to include parenting! this book is a must hear for parents who are raising boys today!
"Eye-opening and Inspiring"
Raising Men by Eric Davis is a great book for raising men the SEAL way. Raising Men like a SEAL isn't quite what you might expect, though. SEALs are smart, creative, and, most of all, dedicated to a life characterized by honor, courage, and commitment -- surely qualities that we would want our sons to have. Eric Davis shares a lot of keys to building lasting relationships with our sons (and daughters) and preparing them fully for adulthood. I highly recommend this book for parenting in general. Just keep in mind that a book written by a SEAL most-likely has some language that some may find offensive. The message of the book is no less powerful with that language.
