This book probably contain interesting facts of the history of Colombia. However, the narrative with fake audio-captions (read out letters and speeches for instance) made this almost impossible to listen to. Despite me really wanting to learn more about the history I came away with very limited knowledge. Reading the book might have been a 3-star (impossible to judge), but with this narrative a clear 1-star, it is difficult to accurately evaluate that...
"A good outline for further study"
The program covers a tremendous amount of history in just under three hours. While it did not make me an expert, it gave me a feel for the topic and some ideas for further study.
The quotes and character voices, while sometimes a bit comical, helped me keep the characters straight while I was listening. My attention did not drift much.
The dynamic reading maintained my attention; I listened to this while walking to work in the mornings over a period of three days. The emphasis the narrator used helped me stay focused.
If I had three hours to dedicate to it, it would be ideal for a single sitting.
"High school book report"
Deeper analysis, fewer block quotes.
More historical context and development of the themes.
Performance involved reading block quotes with various accents. The accents were somewhat comical, and the passionate reading made everything sound like a made for TV teen movie.
