Triathlon for the Every Woman is a hilarious, fun and informative read - full of expert advice, training tips, and stories to turn a tired, busy woman into a tired, busy woman triathlete - no matter her size, age, or place in life.
Meredith Atwood, an overweight and overworked wife, mother, and attorney, went from the couch to the finish of a half Ironman triathlon in a little over a year. Her book, full of contributions from expert coaches, nutritionists and athletes, takes the reader through the disciplines of swimming, biking and running. In addition, the book includes comical accounts of battling the scale and the balancing act of training with a spouse, kids and a full-time job. The book will inspire and entertain - and have even the busiest of women taking on the challenge of swimming, biking, and running. Even for those lacking in time, motivation or hope, Triathlon for the Every Woman will turn everything around and make any woman a believer.

The narrator and the author are so up beat and not in the slightest bit pretentious.
I Googled 'prairie dogging' .....Eww!
Just the right amount of emotion (some sports narrator's go over the top) and emphasis
Looking for something to motivate me to get fit. This one had the best preview.
Although i have no intention of having children or getting married. This book still works for me.
I used to be young and fit like the author, now i am old and wobbly and want to do something exciting with my life.
I have listened to this book three times in one sitting (i was preparing for my motivation to kick in) i walk with this playing, cook with this playing and even exercise with it.
I shall never look at a stationary bicycle the same way again
This book is not for women only, but for anyone who knows nothing about triathlons and believes that they cannot do it or that partecipating in a thriatlon is for other people...
Telling her personal story with humour the author made me understand that I can do it too...that I can get there too,
She gives every detail you need to know about triathlons to actually get set for one, from gear to training ideas to any possible information and trick.
"Just the inspiration I needed to get off the couch"
Absolutely! I wish there was a way I could get my friends to sit down and listen for a few minutes, to get them hooked as well.
This is a REAL person with issues I can relate to. Not unattainable, just lots of hard work.
I love the dry humor and wit that kept me interested while I was learning valuable tips on becoming a triathlete should I accept the challenge. I have just enough exposure to cycling to really appreciate her references to the queen for example. So motivational to listen to someone ordinary become extraordinary!
"Turned this motivation-killer off mid-run"
I picked up this audiobook to listen to while training to bump up from sprints to long courses. I thought it would be motivational as Iʻm also a beginning triathlete trying to make a positive change in my busy life. However, I only got a few chapters in before the authorʻs self-hatred and paradoxical entitlement issues became unbearable. I decided Iʻd rather run in silence than listen any more. This book is also heavily Christian and mommy-focused. Not my cup of tea.
Year of Yes
No - I think the narrator added to that "Bible study leader who pretends to be friendly but is really just keeping an eye on you because her husband keeps having affairs with the choir members" vibe. Brittle, insincerely bright - this may have been the content and not the voice. Iʻm unsure.
Itʻs autobiographical - so this question isnʻt applicable.
"I love this book! So motivating and easy to relate too!"
Meredith is funny, honest, and so relatable! I would love to complete a triathlon one day and meet her at the finish line!
"Thanks for sharing your story"
Motivation as I move into my second him this weekend; you can do it! Just pick a race
"Fun read for the beginner and seasonal triathlete"
Enjoyed listening to the book on audible. Provided many tips and lots of great stories that are extremely valuable for the beginner and reassuring tips for the seasoned triathlete. Infused with lots of humor and real life thoughts that indeed make the sport so awesome
Loved every word and thanks for sharing your story. Just keep moving forward!
I too may tri!
"This was such a good book"
It's pretty high on the list.
It was very real, good advice, and hysterical.
Talking about her trials and tribulations with active wear.
This is the second time I've listened to this book - noteworthy bc I almost never listen to books more than once. I love it and highly recommend this book to anyone - triathletes, those wishing to become triathletes, and those who are simply ready for a change. Thank you Swim Bike Mom for sharing your challenges and triumphs!!
"Funny, motivating, realistic."
- Realistic perspective
The author is really the only character, other than her trainer and husband she talks about.
She isn't a bad reader. I just don't think she has the same sense of humor as the author that let her emote the subject the way the author would have.
