Leahy is the expert on worry or GAD to give it it's proper name. Using Cognitive behavioral therapy techniques Leahy shows how one can overcome worry. He uses common CBT techniques like productive worry v unproductive worry; worry diary and worry time. Recommend this whole heartedly
I bought this audiobook yesterday and have listened to it twice already. It is a good effective self help guide to dealing with worry. The narrator is good. I particularly like the idea of self help audiobooks. I find it a very good format for these types of books. If you have a problem with worrying i would highly recomend this book.
I am being bullied at work, in a public sector college, and I'm a political outcast after questioning management. My worry levels have been affecting my sleep, my every waking thought and have made my life a misery of late. This audio was the friend with practical, real advice and techniques that coached me all weekend to a healthier outlook and a future that doesn't have to include putting up with worrying 24//7. It's all very good knowing why things happen but those of us in dire stress situations, where worry is eroding every aspect of life, need simple steps to say - you're not going mad, you are not alone, you can do something about this...this is how to do it and life can go on.I would advise anyone reading this who feels the pressure of a broken relationship, work environments which are toxic etc. to try this book. I wanted help NOW and this book gave it to me. I feel relieved and back in control of my life. I never write reviews - but I know others are out there searching for relief from feeling so weighed down by life and worry.
"Don't worry about buying this one"
This was one of those rare self-help books that absolutely nailed the diagnosis of worry, it's impact and the "thinking distortions" that accompany it. It also shed light on the impossibility of predicting an uncertain future and the futility of trying to build defense strategies to avoid catastrophic events that will likely never occur. The 7 step "cure" the author advances is sound - but is very hard to follow in an audiobook format. For each of the 7 steps, there were 10 other steps nested within in each. Since I listen to most audiobooks in my car, I found myself having to pull over to the side of the road to scribble down core elements of the program in a notebook to build my own personal "cure." Overall, I felt the book was excellent and insightful - and have recommended it to many friends and colleagues.
"Perfect Some Relief In A Book"
I am surprised how this books just totally speaks to my issues with worry/anxiety and answers with what I need to cure this albatross of worry/anxiety. I could not have made a better choice of books on the matter.

Yes. It's the field guide you've been looking for.
It gets to the heart of the matter with real world scenarios and practical advice. It gives the reader an observational perspective on their own behavior. The whole book may not pertain to you but you can be sure that you will be able to apply some of it to your life.
I liked the scenario's given and the 'split view' of what was happening internally.
To stand back and let life happen...worry is only a facade and trickery of the mind. You will be alright no matter what.

i have listened to this audio book twice. alot of great advice and ideas to use everyday.
I've listened to this book several times. I consider it my go to when my worrying and anxiety creeps in.
This book provided some insightful points. I felt like the seven step process was not applied systematically to each scenario. So in that way I felt like it could have been organized a little better or more systematically.
I liked some of the practical advice. Like arranging a time every day to have your "worry" time so you can avoid unproductive "worry" time.
It was very pleasant to listen to.
A lot of useful information is thrown at you in a short amount of time. Author is very direct and doesn't waste time on any topic. I often had to rewind and take notes.
This book gave me some tools to challenge my way of thinking. What I mean is questions to ask yourself about your worry. When you worry is it a productive worry or an unproductive worry? Most people believe worrying will help them prepare better so when something bad happens they will already know how to act. When in fact this sort of thinking cripples you. How likely is it that your worry will come true? What's the best case scenario? What's the worst case? What's the most likely case? etc...

"A Great Read / Listen"
Bought the audio book and have listened it through 3 times now. Will definitely continue to listen to it some more too. Found it very insightful and realistic. The author explains what worry is, steps to decrease worry and also some practical real life examples of reasoning out instances of worry. I wasn't magically cured from worry but I now understand it better and have some great tips to help me work at curing my worry. I would reconmend it to anyone trapped in the clutches of OCD(obsessive compulsive disorder) and or GAD(generalised anxiety disorder). The voice artist also does a great job and didn't bore me. It was very helpful for me to have the audio version as I struggle to keep concentration while reading. I listened to the audio while working and driving and I therefore didn't have to set out extra time for reading.
