Being a typical Brit "bloke" I was a bit skeptical about the pink cover but after hearing some of the narrative thought I'd give it a go.
As someone who has been practising IF daily, for about 3 months at the time I purchased this, I was curious to try and understand the science behind it a little more deeply.
it took me a while to adjust to Melanie's US accent but I found her research extremely in depth and her unbiased delivery very matter of fact. Especially regarding good groups and their effects on our physiology.
On the whole I would definitely recommend this audio or the printed version if you are curious about the benefits of IF.
If you are looking to develop your knowledge of how our bodies process good, as well as far real life results for yourself, this is a must-have book.
Once you get to know the author's delivery a liitle better and realise she was on the same mission as anyone reading or listening, you'll really understand this book can help. I've seen massive changes and plan to continue as there is downside - especially as I can continue enjoying my red wines too! Recommended.
"Great resource for intermittent fasting facts"
I listened to this as a reinforcement during fasting days. With science and research overviews, it was helpful to understand the processes occurring within ones body with both eating grains (no no in paleo) and fasting. If I need inspiration on tough days, ill pop this audiobook in my ear buds :)
"Great Resource for Easy, Healthy Dieting"
I love this book. It has all the information I could ever want about Paleo and Intermittent Fasting - two lifestyle changes which, like Melanie promises, have allowed me to effortlessly lose weight without feeling restricted. I love how Melanie speaks in a very casual manner, like she's your best friend, but backs up everything with articulate, astute research. I bought the kindle version as well, which contains a resource section with 30 pages or so of referenced studies. I guess she didn't think listing those off in the audiobook would be very entertaining.
The Paleo Solution by Robb Wolf is my only reference point here, but I love Melanie's approach to Paleo.
I like how Melanie narrated her own work. You can tell it's very personal to her.
I was a hesitant to start the dietary changes, and thought I would never lose my sugar cravings, but it's actually happening! I'm also eating all I want, yet am losing weight. It's weird. So happy I learned about Paleo and Intermittent Fasting! Plus I get to drink wine? Talk about a win/win situation!
I was lost when it came to IF. I was so happy to find a book that covers paleo and IF . I have been living a paleo code lifestyle for 3 months but feel I am still driving by cravings. I feel IF is the answer. thank you for the great info
Don't let the pink cover fool you. This is not fluff. Melanie Avalon has put together a thorough, engaging, well-researched, science-focused book. If you're interested in Paleo, I cannot recommend this book enough.
I haven't listened to any other performances and am not aware of any. She narrates very well, without monotony and with a nice touch of humor. Her performance is marred only by a few very minor mispronunciations, e.g., 'albeit' and 'tread' are consistently mispronounced. These are minor hiccups in an otherwise smooth, enjoyable performance.
"Love this concept!"
Melanie is a great narrator with her own style and charisma. I love the science that she has to back up all of her ideas and claims. Definitely worth a try!!
I will definitely go back and re-listen to specific parts as a reference, like for the science of intermittent fasting, or the Paleo dining tips.
No, although I like her voice and personality, so I would consider future purchases.
Paleo And Intermittent Fasting For Health And Weight Loss (Is that cheating?)
I definitely recommend this book. It actually changed my perspective on food, which is hard to do. A good buy!
The introduction of this book had me hooked. It's very relatable and encouraging. I feel like I can actually make these diet changes. It's refreshing to read about a diet that's more concept based, than calorie based.
I've read many of the pivotal books in the Paleo/primal/LCHF/Bulletproof arena, and I've always stumbled on the little nuances....or being confused, because they all sound right, and overwhelmed because it's so much to take in. Boy was I shocked when I stumbled across this book, and she addressed all of my concerns. I knew Intermittent fasting gave rise to numerous health benefits and I believed in the Paleo principals of eating, as well. I'm also a social drinker, and I would feel chastised by other authors for not giving it up completely. And we all know that the best lifestyle choice is one you can follow. I think I've finally found the answer. You can tell that Melanie is passionate about the subject, she's done the research, and she's undergone personal research as well....how is it possible to write this informative book....and still throw in humor and sarcasm....it's evident her acting background contributes to the amazing narration of her book. I tried to listen to primal blueprint but it was so hard, and I LOVE Mark Sisson, and I've listed to What, When, Wine 2.5 times, and I keep finding new nuggets.....like cheese literally being addictive. I will come back and write another review in 6 months to let you know how my journey into Paleo IF as Melanie describes. It was also fabulous her research and description of supplements....this would take someone a while to do otherwise. I could go on, but listen for yourself...(no I'm not a friend....I live in Atlanta and she's 10 years younger than me!)
"First two sections-GREAT. Last two-AWFUL."
I loved the first two sections on Paleo and intermittent fasting. They were both very informative with good facts and references to back up her theories. When she got to the exercise section, I went from excited to incredibly disappointed. The exercise section was basically telling people NOT to exercise regularly and focused purely on how you look, and not health. I work out 6 days a week, and it's not to be skinny. I don't eat paleo to lose weight. I'm not going to try IF to lose weight. It's for my HEALTH. Even people who are "skinny" should exercise. I feel the author completely lost my respect at that point. I went from wanting to recommend this book to everyone to not wanting to recommend it to anyone. The final section on supplements was a complete waste of time. She only went over what she personally uses which was a ton of crap, but not anything the average person probably uses.
"A gem of a book!"
I love her wit and down to earth attitude, women everywhere can certainly relate to her.
This a well written, no-nonsense approach to paleo and intermittent fasting that is easy to understand and a joy to listen to. Melanie is thorough yet not boring in any way in explaining the scientific and nutrition aspects.
