Summary

Tap into the power of The New Psycho-Cybernetics.

Do you struggle daily to reach your goals, overcome obstacles, and eliminate pesky worries about your future?

Most of us still live by the motto, “No pain, no gain.” But this approach to life is actually a prescription for fear, frustration, and self-doubt.

Much of what we learn about success is based on the pain/gain idea: in essence, work harder, be more persistent, and develop greater willpower. The New Psycho-Cybernetics formula is anything but painful. It will allow you to achieve all your goals, faster, easier, and with less strain than you ever thought possible.

Entrepreneurial genius Dan Kennedy has teamed up with Dr. Maxwell Maltz to create The New Psycho-Cybernetics: A Mind Technology for Living Your Life without Limits. Dr. Maltz’s principles of Psycho-Cybernetics have inspired and enhanced the lives of more than 30 million people around the world. Dr. Maltz invented a simple, step-by-step program that will help you replace a negative self-image with positive affirmations of empowerment.

The New Psycho-Cybernetics will help you:

  • Deprogram yourself from self-doubt and negative self-evaluators.
  • Respond to stressful events with positive, corrective action.
  • Improve your self-image and reprogram yourself for success.
  • Learn to recognize potential signs of danger and avoid failure.
  • Overcome resistance to change.
  • Cope with important responsibilities without feeling overwhelmed.
  • Use a variety of techniques to virtually eliminate stress and anxiety from your life.
  • Learn a 10-point program for daily self-image strength conditioning.
  • And much more...

Beyond Bad. Beyond Parody. Beyond Offensive.

I listen to a lot of this kind of thing because I'm interested in the psychology of performance and confidence. I downloaded this because it had a scientific sounding title, it talk about a 'mind technology' which always convinces the gullible like me, and because I've liked Dan Kennedy's marketing books.

What a mistake!

The audiobook is a development on Dr Maxwell Maltz's work by Dan Kennedy and the "Psycho-Cybernetics Institute" and takes the listener through a series of techniques and behaviours to improve one's self image presented in quasi-scientific way.

The late Dr Maltz is presented as prophet in his field, apparently inventing visualisation, which will come as a surprise to those civilisations who have been meditating for millennia. So reverently does Dan Kennedy refer to Dr Maltz's work you'd assume he was one of the leading psychologists of the last century.

Not so.

He was a plastic surgeon.

That pretty much tells you all you need to know.

The content of the book covers the basic bases of developing a positive self image, but the techniques and examples are well past their sell by date, embarrassingly so in some cases, superseded by newer and much better researched works.

The narration combines Dan Kennedy (a marketer) and archive material of Dr Maltz.

For a guy who wrote books like "The No BS Guide to Direct Marketing" you might expect a strident, confident presenter but instead Kennedy is pretty meek and laid back to the point of somnambulism. Not that this stops him coming across as arrogant as he frequently tells the listener about his public speaking gigs when he is rubbing shoulders with luminaries such as Bill Cosby. Oh! How I bet he wishes he could edit that out.

Kennedy confesses to being no motivational speaker (and ain't that the truth) but he is a positive Anthony Robbins compared with the speak-your-weight-machine-monotone of Dr Maltz.

And why offensive? Two particular areas literally made me wince out loud. The first example from Dr Maltz, when he tells us that any actress who doesn't learn her lines or "look after her looks" should soon find herself out of work. It's an old fashioned view of women but this is archive material.

There is no such mitigation for Kennedy's assertion that both depression and cancer can be attributed to a bad attitude.

For that damaging, narrow-minded, idiotic comment alone this book should be deleted from Audible's catalogue and consigned to history.

Get this, listen, implement!

If you could sum up The New Psycho-Cybernetics in three words, what would they be?

Effective self-image re-programming.

What was one of the most memorable moments of The New Psycho-Cybernetics?

There was a moment when it all clicked... "your willpower cannot out-perform your self-image..."

What about Maxwell Maltz and Dan Kennedy ’s performance did you like?

Dan Kennedy is not a '"rah-rah" type of speaker. Instead he is clear, includes enough voice inflection to keep you interested, and moves along at a good pace. The older recordings of Dr. Maltz are obviously from a period when the recording quality was not as high, but it's still great to hear from the original author.

Did you have an emotional reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

To be honest, this book has really influenced me. I've read the book as well, but I listen to this when I go out for my run. It doesn't make me laugh or cry... but it has helped me to understand both my successes and failures in life.

Any additional comments?

Highly recommended.

Best format yet!

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

There are many versions of this book, some edited by other people, some are only 'based' on psycho cybernetics, some are the original text from Dr. Maltz. But this one beats all of them. Good audio quality, narrated by the author, and effectively modernized to make it more appealing. Great Product!

Incredibly Life changing

Loved it! Practical exercises to start making changes to your way of thinking and your life at work, home and socially.
It would be even better if a section could be added just of exercise from all chapters in one, like a summary

Timeless advice on personal development

This is a fairly old book but the advice within has been relevant for centuries and is still relevant today. The core concept is not positive thinking - it is more ‘positive-doing’. Valuable advice on how to change your perspective and live your life to your fullest potential.
