Thought creates the chemical

It is the same theory as the excellent Jamie Smart in his audio book Clarity.

Scientists know we create our world instantly using chemicals.

They know that instant thoughts send instant chemical signals to create our instant feelings.

Incorrect cure:
Change bad people or experiences.

We think the bad people or experiences are sending the bad chemical which give us bad feelings.

CORRECT biological sequence:
Thought sends chemical to mind to create feeling.

The thought = the chemical = the feeling.

Bad thoughts send bad chemicals.
Good thoughts send good chemicals.

Correct cure:
Think new thought.
New thought = new chemical =new feeling.

It is not the other person who causes the bad chemical going to your mind. It is your bad thought that sends the chemical.

Thought can only send chemicals regarding your instant thought.

Future thoughts will send chemicals in the future.

It is all biology. Nothing more complicated than that.

Humans are very good at dealing with things that actuality happen.

Humans are bad at dealing with past thoughts (ruminating) and future thoughts (worrying).

It makes sense for us not to do what we are bad at (ruminating and worrying), and stick to what we are good at (dealing with things that actually happen).

Good mental hygiene = reduce the amount of bad chemicals being sent.

You are feeing your thinking chemicals not feeling your life.

Mind Blowing!

Would you listen to The Inside-Out Revolution again? Why?

I've listened to this over a dozen times now, Each time I listen something else resonates within me. I spend a lot of time in traffic, which enables me to use that time to improve my mindset, I'm actually disappointed if the motorways are clear. Thanks to this book!

What other book might you compare The Inside-Out Revolution to, and why?

A Bug Free Mind - Andy Shaw
Straight talking, not a lot of Fluffing. To the point, clear instructions - No Guarantees.
What you are trying to achieve is down to You. It's. Your Mind -

Both books share important information, value, and good clear concise teachings.

What about Michael Neill’s performance did you like?

Certainly enthusiastic!

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

No, I never pick up a book or listen and limit myself in completing it in a set amount of time, good books are all too soon over, and when that happens I listen again and again so I ingrain the knowledge I want to take in and apply.

Any additional comments?

Great Book!

A good perspective on life, but simplistic

while this was an easy listen, and made a lot of sense to me. it lacks the completeness to help people handle difficulties in life, including those of thinking too much. I feel a sense of ongoing effect after reading this book, but I would recommend something with more tools to apply, such as 'the happiness trap' by Russ Harris, or something similar.

Yet again no guidance

I am very interested in the 3 principles but just cannot find any actual guidelines or exercises to allow me to experience them. Again this book, like others, share case studies but no instruction.

Interesting borrowed ideas, poorly elaborated

Most of the ideas in this book are taken from a guy called Syd Banks. He is heavily quoted throughout this VERY SHORT audio book without substantial additional analysis from the author - Michael Neill.

It's delivered in a fairly entertaining way - this audio book hyper-summarises a lot of his ideas quite well.
For my preference, though, it focuses too much trying to explain away the still-unknown/still-unexplored with mysticism - and there are a number of soundbites that really made me cringe.

You need to have an open mind to take onboard what is being said - but I think there is little critical analysis done on the part of the author, and such a short audiobook risks giving people the wrong takeaway ideas - ie "nothing matters, so don't worry about it" instead of the much more nuanced message that Syd Banks talks about.

I can see the inside-out revolution being very useful for middle-class, well-off listeners - but rather seems to ignore the situation of people suffering genuine hardship. In these situations, it would take a rather Jedi-like mindset to apply the principles in the way that this book suggests - which would make it redundant, anyway.
I think a better book would focus on a more universal examples.

There is very little thought around how to view responsibility or growth in this book - especially for people who are really in a bad place. I think Jordan Petersen - albeit through an extremely bleak lense - tackles a lot of similar underlying concepts here but from analysis of a wider number of sources, and with a suitable amount of explanation - and a humility that says "look. this is the boundary of my understanding on this" - rather than coming up with mysticism to explain away the unknowns.

The Inside Out Revolution complements the Jordan Peterson book quite nicely with a very different style and perspective - but I'm not sure how well it would stand on it's own given how little time is spend properly exploring the ideas.

I'd suggest reading Jordan Peterson, and complementing it with watching Syd Banks on YouTube instead.

What a relief!

I felt huge relief from listening to Michael's book 'The Inside-Out Revolution". I have been feeling depressed for some time but now I feel so much lighter and am hopeful about the future. Thank you Michael Neill for this book.

Dribble

Absolutely utter nonsense
I just did not get anything out of it ! Just waffle !!!

I’m trying to work out if it’s me !!! But it was bad.

Also the whispering and talking quietly at times was silly

Might have to come back to it.

Hard to follow & so boring!

I could not follow the book no matter how hard I tried. Not captivating and very confusing at times. Usually a book of this length (2.5 hours) would be devoured in one drive... two weeks it took me! Left no long lasting impression or useful takeaways.

Bit too 'spiritual" for me

What could have made this a 4 or 5-star listening experience for you?

Didn't like this and ditched after 45mins Sounded good, and I'm all up for a bit of spiritual talk and mindset work, but this goes a bit too far for me
