"A rare book in the self-help field - it gives you the facts and the information you need without all the excess nonsense!" (Dr. Julianne Friers, Chicago Tribune)
"Straight to the point with honest, practicable and easy ways to relieve the pain of low self-esteem and help you live a normal happy and healthy life. I cannot recommend this book highly enough." (Nonfiction Book of the Month May 2016, Sydney Herald)
I have read and listened to a load of books about self-esteem but this is the only one that actually produced proper, and lasting, results for me. Excellent narration. I already had this book in print format and thought it was great, but for me it was only really with the audio version that it all really started to make sense.
A great book and one I have zero problems recommending time and time again.
A very helpful book the has changed everything for me.
Lets be honest here, this is a very very difficult subject to tackle. I have been dealing with Self-Esteem issues all my life. I have good times and bad times but never really feel stable. I have read a lot of books on tis subject. Some did help a bit, many didn’t. To be absolutely honest this is the first one where I didn’t feel like i was being patronised nor did I feel like i was listening to a medical journal. It was proper advice that actually worked!! Everything felt well researched and comes from people who have ACTUALLY suffered from self-esteem issues, not just what a doctor thinks it might feel like.
I have a long journey to go but i will be honest and say I have never felt so hopeful about the future. This book has given me the tools to get on with my life and rebuild my self-esteem in a more sustainable and lasting way and for that I am eternally grateful.
I recommend this book to anyone suffering from self-esteem issues as well as anxiety and depression. Thanks, 5/5.
As a girl it's hard to admit to yourself that you have a problem. Due to certain parent issues I believed myself to be unlovable and not worthy of anything good. My self talk was mostly negative and I had a hard time standing up for myself. I faked it very well so no one would know that I was the unlovable person I believed I was. This book, along with her workbook, truly opened my eyes and helped me to see that my mindset was still holding on to beliefs I made when I was a kid. This book helped me so much that I actually had a friend tell me I seemed different and more confident. (Keep in mind I told no one I was reading and applying the exercises in this book to my life as I was too embarrassed to tell anyone.) This book is not about pointing blame, it's about understanding why you think the way you do so you can make a positive change in your life. Definitely a great read and a book to be recommended by all. There are life lessons in here that most people couldn't even imagine. Incredible!
Can I have three phrases instead? ;)
1 - Simple to understand
2 - Easy to implements
3 - IT WORKS.
First one but really enjoyed the narration, was easy to listen to.
In all honesty, pretty much every single section something really hit me and made me think about my life in a totally different way.
Living with low self-esteem is horrific - I should know, I have been living like this for much of my adult life. Got this book a while ago on print and loved it but thought i would get it on audio too, so I could listen to it anywhere.
I have checked out a lot (and i meant a LOT) of books in this genre but this is by far my fave. Its my fave because its the only one that had any real and lasting impact. Really simple to understand, short and to the point and awesome value for money.
Excellent book, I hope it helps you like it helped me.
No crap, just good solid advice to help raise your self-esteem and deal with the issues that keep dragging some of us down. Learnt some new things in this book I had not thought of or read before.
Good narration, struck a very good balance between engaging and easy to listen to. I cannot say this book will work for everyone but i CAN say this book has definitely worked for me and my self-esteem seems to be rising on a daily basis improving my overall quality of life.
Recovering from low self-esteem is a difficult journey and there is no quick cure - this book does not claim to provide this. Instead it provides good practical solid advice and tips that are easy to implement on your own life. I have read and listened to a lot of books like this but this is my favorite so far. Narration was excellent too, it managed the fine art of being engaging without being annoying.
Why? Because for once, i got advice that actually worked.
Huh? Its not that sort of book.
First time, but i liked her voice, very easy to listen to and kept me interested.
Fantastic. Finally, after spending a fortune on other books, i have found something that is actually helping. it is a gradual process but i am definitely letting go of a lot of anxieties and starting to feel a new brightness and positive feeling in my life. Fantastic, i am eternally grateful to the author
This book has helped me so much. It takes a personal approach to self esteem and self beliefs. Rather than offering vague advice, Alison teaches you how to explore your individual experiences and discover how they've shaped who you are. After reading through it and following the exercises I feel like I understand myself so much better and I'm finally learning how to really love myself. I think this book could benefit just about anyone, regardless of what type of life they've lived. What an incredible journey of self discovery and improvement!
Got recommended this by a professional and i was a little dubious at first but i got a lot more from this book than i first expected. I would say at least 70% of it was directly applicable to me which was good. Narrator was good, clear and easy to understand
This audio is one of the best I've listened to in self esteem. Excellent thoughts and exercises to bring you to a new level of awareness and actually make changes that benefit you
"Valuable Teaching and Self Reference Tool"
Very helpful! It gives really good resources to help the listener struggling with low self-esteem. Well explained practical strategies you can implement yourself or teach others. it easy to understand where lowered self esteem comes from and how to Recover from Low Self-Esteem. It's worth the price if you want to use with clients and makes a great self-help. I only wish I'd found it sooner!
"This is so good for me. thanks for this."
Having an audio or print version is totally a personal choice. I went with the audio version and it is simply amazing. Story is narrated very well and the sound is clear and crisp.
I have read some books before although they were good but this book outstanding. It have uniqueness of story and explaining things and encouraging us for good things. According to my views its the best book and everybody should go for it.
I was having real hard time with my career.
I am a IT freelancer and working from last two years. I spend most of my time on my pc and don't hang around much.
Everything was going well, I was spending time working and earning. But 6-7 months ago I started loosing work and clients. I was calm as thought of it as a temporary phase but it came out as a long one. With passing times I was losing hope and 3 months ago I lost all of my work and got nothing to do. I was so scared and worried. I was full of negative thoughts. I had to earn to live. I lost all my self esteem that I started working at a restaurent at very low(half) as compared to other doing same job. Due to my tight conditions some people took advantage to that and made fun of me and made me work more then I deserved. I was so worried I kept listening to them without saying anything. My friend suggested me to read such encouraging books. I read two books before this. they were just ok and could not affect me. Then i got this audio book. This book told me several unique ways and ideas to live a positive life. I started applying those ideas into my life and slowly start getting results. By following the instructions and ways I turned my self from a negatively filled individual to a positive and forward looking guy. Now again I am a happy guy and with more positivity and efforts I am getting my work pace back.
Thanks to Dr. Jennifer Alison for the ultimate content and Heather Tuya for narrating it so well.
"Very helpful book, thank you."
It actually helped me. Really. It obviously takes work from myself too but the book is the first thing to REALLY help me.
It was engaging without annoying which is perfect for a narrator.
That I can get better - and I *AM* getting better.
I have read a lot of books about self-esteem, always searching for something to help me feel better - this is the ONLY one that has been of any use. Do not expect an overnight cure if you are not prepared to do the work, but really, this book will help you if you actually do really want to get better. It had some very original ideas I had not heard and was written in a very interesting way. I will be recommending this to a lot of people and felt the need to leave this review to say thanks.
"A LIFE CHANGING TIPS"
I am 23 working and schooling.
I have a big problem and that has to do with self esteem..
I couldn't muster up courage to flow with my mate, I couldn't even talk to girls or answer questions confidently in class.
my dentition wasn't and still isn't perfect and it affected me a lot.
But then towards the end of school I started reading some books about building ones self esteem and this Fast proven treatment happens to be the best so far,
because I feel it was directly talking about me,
from then I learn to change my mind set, I started growing confidence within.
now I don't even remember how it feels to have LSE.
This book is excellent for anyone looking to improve their self-esteem.
Easy step by steps to follow. Anyone that reads it will get something out of it.
"Great job! I learnt a lot from this"
Improve Yourself Everyday
It was very down-to-earth narration. Simple language, very clear and easy to understand. It also deals with life issues that everyone can relate to. There were some signs of self-esteem issues that even confident people like me miss and attribute to something else. I now take note of these signs better after I read the book.
Setting realistic goals and not keeping up with the person next door. Trying not to focus on things I have no control over and accepting the results regardless as far as I know I did the best I could.
It was a surprisingly good read for people who do not believe they have any self-esteem. Once you read the first few chapters and go through the exercises, you would see that there are a lot of areas of your life you can improve. Trying too hard to please people can be interpreted as being a hard worker whereas it could mask a deep-rooted insufficiency and need to be loved. The book went through the chapter, steadily providing cause and effect as well as solutions.
when they fail to close a client, you’d think it was their fault whereas the person might just not be ready for a change of vendor at that time. I think this book would come handy during our team building activities. There are many self-development exercises to pick from that will make a difference in their lives.
"Be a better, more confident YOU!"
It is a life guide that even people that do not feel like they have self-esteem issues would find helpful. It cuts across all aspects of the personal life and how to improve one’s self. Also the exercises in the book and the tips for self-development are very practical.
Love Yourself More
I wasn’t sure how I wanted to write this review. It has been a while since a book has had me doing so much self-audit. After going through the first few chapters, I had to accept that there were worrying signs of self-esteem issues in my life that I may have neglected to confront. Not anymore. The hardest part of the last 6 hours (yes, I read it in two long stretches) was coming to terms with the need for me to love myself more and promising myself to do something about it before it became a chasm in my life. I would summarise the book in points based on the way I related to the author- Self-esteem issues could be masked by a general feeling of inadequacy, an inability to accept one’s failings and mistakes and a fear of intimacy or developing close relationships- Difficulty socializing or participating in group or community tasks may also indicate self-esteem and confidence problems as well as a lack of (or inadequate) self-belief. I made a mental note to visit the community centre more often and as much as possible, take a book or some snacks to the park close to my house and chat with neighbours more. I’ve known most of them all my life and I can’t understand why I can’t view them as friends.- It’s sometimes easier to accept criticism as truth than praise as being earned. I noticed that I may have been accepting criticism too readily without having a meaningful conversation with the critic about the merits of my decisions. Going forward, I will take some time to enjoy my own achievements and even reward myself. My last vacation allowance is gathering cents in a low interest savings account. I’m going to plan a vacation, it’s long overdue. - Rule your inner voice. Wrestle your demons and let your angels sing. I must learn to be on my own side and quiet the still voice that sometimes tells me that I cannot achieve the things I want to do. Self-love and self-care cannot be overestimated. I need to stop focusing on failure, learn from them and just move on.- An idea I have learnt from the book is to take time to write things daily that I want to do to make myself happier and more content with life as I know it. After all the most important things in life are hardly touched but felt according to Helen Keller.- Unrealistic goal setting sets one up for failure and negative self-vibes. Working too hard, attempting to lose too much weight in a short period, trying to stop bad habits without a proper plan, these are the type of things I need to avoid to make sure I don’t get sucked into bad moods and feelings of underachievement.- Comparing yourself to other people doesn’t do you any good. Keeping up with the Joneses just ends up in unnecessary headache. You're the product of your own experience and should be confident in the fact that the experiences make you who you are, comparison is irrelevant and pointless. Difference makes us who we are. Two of me is waaaay too much - Focusing on things you cannot change also will not let you love yourself. Love your body shape, embrace your mistakes as part of your personal development process, try to feed on positive vibes from the good things in your life- In conclusion, when you’re in a relationship, you should feed it with mutual construct, compromise and understanding that no one is perfect, not your or your partner. Believe that you’re good enough to give and receive love. Know yourself, be yourself and love yourself. Nobody can love you more than yourself. Surround yourself with family and people that you can share things with and trust with your concerns and fears.
""AN ANTIDOTE FOR A NEGATIVE MINDSET""
yes i would, because it has been very helpful in the area of self confidence, mind control and Goal setting. it exposed a lot of truth and facts i always ignored and took for granted. it made me realise that i am not paying much attention to my mind and Body, the book exposed solutions to low self-esteem, after analysing its causes.
it is also very practical and well organised.
This audio book is an excellent guide to building a high self-esteem. My mind will surely need more of it until it is totally absorbed.
I will compare this book with JOHN MASON'S BOOK "IMITATION IS LIMITATION" because it was able to uncover and explain the fact that the way we think about ourselves affects our actions and expressions, we are being limited by the feeling that we are imperfect and it only leaves us feeling depressed.
Though this is the first of her performance i have listened to, she was very crisp in her pronunciations and articulations. i must say her performance is just perfect.
Building your confidence level
There are books that touch the mind, while others touch the soul. This book I must confess has touched my mind and soul. It is quite true that at one point in one's life, one unconsciously develops low self-esteem. I developed a low self-esteem as a result of what I experienced earlier in my life and it affected how I react to events and how I view people around me. I have come to realise that I am not the only one who is experiencing this.
DR. JENNIFER ALISON has done a great job, which by all indication as observed by myself is born out of deep research and insight, she has also shown that all we need to develop our self-esteem is within us, by just building up the right mindset and attitude. Special thanks to the author for this great piece. Anyone who is having any form of low self-esteem should get this book as an antidote. The author has a great sense of humour and she is very practical.
"Working Towards A Stronger Me"
For non fiction books it is near the top. It is engaging and informative, while keeping a professional tone as well. It walks you through various activities at the same time keeping everything from being too overwhelming.
The narration provided by Heather Tuya was wonderful. She was able to be engaging and calming, which is not something that a lot of narrators are able to do. I found myself able to focus on the tasks she spoke about as much as I was able to enjoy the performance as a whole.
This book has brought to my attention some of the different issues that people have with self-esteem. That while some may find a certain point really difficult to work through, other's may not. It helps focus your view on yourself instead of worrying about what other people are thinking about.
The way that it's presented in the book by Dr. Alison is very interesting. She talks about in a way that you're able to look at it in a view of your own life. You're able to focus more on yourself, which is what you want with a self help book, to get through the tasks. This makes sure that you are finishing the tasks as needed, and focuses your thoughts on the subject of self-esteem. You can tell by this approach that she knows what she is talking about. When you get that feeling from an author, it helps to take the subject matter a lot more seriously.
Dr. Jennifer Alison is able to take you through many steps that you can easily apply to your life to help with some of the issues you may be having with your self-esteem. I know personally I will be taking a lot of what she said, and applying it to my daily life. I am looking forward to applying them to all aspects of my life and everything that I can do from here on out. I am hoping that with the help of Dr. Alison I will be able to topple some of the harder self-esteem obstacles that I have been dealing with.
The combination both of the author's ability and authority writing on the subject, and the narrator's ability to present the subject, makes this self help book seem as though you're actually talking to a friend. I really enjoyed the sense that I was listening to someone that I could talk to about anything. This is important when talking about self-esteem issues, because it can be awkward to talk to anyone about the doubts you are feeling about yourself. If there is anyone out there that is feeling as though this is an area that they want to work to better themselves, then this is a great book for that.
Because I feel more comfortable with myself, and my ability to work through these tasks, I feel like I would recommend this book to anyone that wants to come up with ways that they can better their lives. Self-esteem is something that we often talk to kids about, but as adults struggle to keep our own heads above water. Dr. Alison helps with this, and I think that most, if not all adults would benefit from listening to it and working through the different tasks. Even if you don't feel as though you have major issues, tiny doubts in your life can still be worked on. We all deserve to have this kind of help.
"I enjoyed listening to it"
The very clear and audible presentation which keep me engaged
No, i didn't cry but was thoughtful
Someone with low self esteem could be missing a lot of opportunities that could come his/her way. Thanks Jennifer Alison.
