    What would have made Lose Weight Without Dieting or Working Out better?

    Different narrator - Janina Edwards sounds awful and it's a slow pace.


    What could J. J. Smith have done to make this a more enjoyable book for you?

    Definitely this book needed much more research. Most information seems very superficial and not well researched - there is no 'why' or 'how' answers - just the 'what'. It seems to me like the author read a few good books on the subject and compiled a superficial review of all information relevant to the average woman with little if no knowledge about weight-gain/loss and control. I found some information to be right down incorrect, heavily relying on the mainstream health myths spread by the food industry.


    You didn’t love this book--but did it have any redeeming qualities?

    None whatsoever - I returned it for a credit point.

    Where does Lose Weight Without Dieting or Working Out rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

    This ranks pretty high among self help. the only thing is that the information can be overwhelming. the Narrator just needed a little pep in her speaking voice but good overall.


    What other book might you compare Lose Weight Without Dieting or Working Out to and why?

    out of all the fitness books, addressing hormones and diet instead of killing yourself at the gym, with no results, was refreshing.

    she need a little pep in reading to make the book sound a bit more exciting.

    I am so happy that this book as written. Not only did JJ make it easy to comprehend but she explained why and how things worked. After finishing the book I'm excited and motivated because I have the understanding of how food works for my body. Job well done!

    "Junk Science"

    This book is basically about 50% true.

    My full time occupation involves writing about nutrition and formulating products in the dietary supplement and food space. Human nutrition is basically all I think about, from waking to falling asleep. My favorite past time is digging into scientific studies and exploring esoteric concepts. I also try to keep a very open mind about new concepts in this space. I don't have a set agenda (low carb, paleo, etc...).

    With that said, this book is junk. About 50% of everything the author says is wrong. It's either pure conjecture with no scientific basis, or just factually inaccurate.

    Worse yet, the whole book reeks of "fad diet". Things like "detoxification causes weight loss" and specifically telling readers to avoid exercise. Plus a bunch of weird quizzes that are meant to make you think you have undiagnosed problems with specific "bad foods".

    Do you ever get tired? Have you ever been depressed? Sleep in on Saturdays? Poop regularly? Great news! You have a problem with environmental toxins. Try my miracle diet.

    I literally couldn't read more than 1 hour of this book before having to return it. I loaded up the Great Courses Nutrition lecture to purge this nonsense from my brain. Sorry J.J. Smith, your phony credentials don't fool me. I'm going to go listen to a real Registered Dietician who's actually gone to, you know, college, for this stuff.

    Avoid this book at all costs...
