    "Wonderful book !"

This book would be a wonderful book to add to anyone's book collection and would be very helpful to a new believer in Christ. The book is very interesting and not over the top, as some christian books can be to in depth. I would highly recommend this book to anyone wanting to discover the power of prayer.

    "Incredible!!!"

I have now reread it numerous times and inculcated some of Torrey's work into my preaching, especially his "Hindrances to Prayer." Especially his teaching on "praying with wrong motives" which are incredibly insightful.

    "Powerful and Insightful"

For anyone who would like to build their prayer life or is truly seeking how God desires them to pray, this book is filled with wisdom and biblical insight. It gives reasons on why christians need to pray, why our prayers are not answered and how to pray effectively, all of these backed by scripture. It is one book you can listen to over and over but still find some new nugget of wisdom to bolster your prayer life.

"What the Christian World Needs most a revival of prayer, personal prayer!"

I know somewhat of the power of pleading prayer such as for my children. Keeping them out of the clutches of satan.
Isaiah 44:3. Also I believe with all my heart God ants to send a third great awakening to America. As Abraham cried out for mercy for the righteous in the cities of Sodom and Gomorrah, so I cry out for America! I'm a pastor responsible for the souls of my congregation I believe this personal prayer is the basis of our life and God!

    "Excellent read"

I was looking for information on how to pray.
    R. A. Torrey did an excellent job. It was easy to follow, past the bible test and it was short. I would recommend it to anyone wanting to learn how to pray.

    "How to pray"

This book was excellent the speaker was good at presenting the book. I have read this book in the past and was excited to get a chance to hear it read. We are reading this book in our church home groups so also hearing it bring another dynamic to my studying of this book. Great work.

"Makes good points for a short read"
What could have made this a 4 or 5-star listening experience for you?

If the author had focused more on daily on-the-go prayer I would have liked it better. This was more of an intellectual treatise on prayer than a workbook or study manual. I wanted more concrete examples, and I wanted more about how to "reach out" to God in loving ways.

I judge most Christian works by The Practice of the Presence of God by Brother Lawrence, and Brother Lawrence talked more about his personal successes and failures than he expounded on theology. I liked Brother Lawrence's approach better.

What other book might you compare How to Pray to and why?

This was a lot like The Truth About Grace by John McArthur. Both works were very theologically oriented (focused on Biblical characteristics of God) and there was more of a "preachy" quality to them than there was a personal experience or mentoring quality.

    Which scene was your favorite?

I enjoyed the parts where he talked about things that could interfere with your prayer life, and I always appreciate the reminders that we are talking to the God of the universe.

You didn’t love this book... but did it have any redeeming qualities?

Yes. It had a lot of redeeming qualities. I didn't hate it, but it might be awhile before I read it again. My primary complaint is the same as my primary complaint with most Christian books...that it did not offer enough encouragement.

    Any additional comments?

This is a good theological study of prayer. For a more practical application of prayer, I would recommend The Practice of the Presence of God by Brother Lawrence or Praying the Bible Into Your Life by Stormie O'Martian.
