Being a mum is an incredible journey, a remarkable experience that changes how we look, how we feel, who we are. As mothers we are strong, protective and proud. We feel a love like no other.
But being a parent can be hard, too. It challenges us physically, mentally, emotionally. There are the days where just managing to fit a shower in amidst the endless feeding, entertaining young children and surviving on a lack of sleep feels like an achievement. With so many people ready to offer 'advice' on the best way to parent, it can feel like you are getting it all wrong.
Since Giovanna and her husband, Tom Fletcher, have had their sons, Buzz and Buddy, they have been sharing glimpses of their family life. With an infectiously positive outlook and a happy take on all things mum-related, Giovanna has developed a following of fellow parents and mums-to-be.
This is not an audiobook about how to have the perfect family experience - Gi would be the first to admit she is winging it just as much as the rest of us. Instead it is an honest, upbeat and incredibly personal account of her own experience of having a family.
In Happy Mum, Happy Baby, Giovanna shares her own journey through parenthood, and in doing so she looks at what it is to be a mother today, encourages you to be confident in yourself as a parent and celebrates how putting a focus on being a happy and confident mum can really make for a happy baby.

A beautiful, honest and balanced book about motherhood. Reasuring and moving reading as a mother and I genuinely believe a valuable insight for fathers. Its hard sometimes to explain how it feels to be a mum, how it changes you, how you process it all, this book does it beautifully. I'll be passing it to my husband to read next.
I enjoyed the book and writing and could relate to a lot of it but I found the reading just too fast and frantic and almost made me on edge listening to it! Also the constant name dropping was a little much!!
I loved this book, listened to it whilst at work and had to stop regular as otherwise I would have cried buckets, not the look I'm going for at work! So much emotion!
Such truthfulness and honesty in Gi's stories, I just wish I could see the photos alongside. I highly recommend this book, I will certainly be listening again and I never re-read books!
I love the fact that Giovanna read this book herself. you really got to feel her emotions as she recounted stories from her time so far as a mother. A lovely book. It's heartwarming to know that even well known personalities can have the same struggles.
Makes parents feel normal with humour and love. The highs and the lows WOW
Yes. I was looking for a genuine story of motherhood, the bad the good, the gritty and the wonderful and that's just what this book is.
I really enjoyed the chapters about her pregancy, births and months after the birth. Her whole chapter thanking her husband was heartwarming.
It made me laugh and cry.
I read some comments about the speed of her reading. It is very quick yes, but you get used to it, however it is very natural and genuine and makes it sound like you are having a chat with her.
This was my treat to listen to whilst feeding my now 10 week old boy off to sleep every night. I also have a 3 year old boy (a week younger than Buzz) and am married to my childhood sweetheart from school of 20 years so it felt very comforting and relevant to my story too. Interesting to hear the things we approached the same/differently and I have definitely taken some tips on board. This was my first audio book download and will now purchase some more for night time, hands free company.
The writing is superb. With no internal filter Giovanna Fletcher's recollections are honest and heartwarming (along with being hilarious at some times.)
The narration was fabulous. I love when authors narrate their own books. Especially with a book like this, it adds an extra layer of depth.
I cannot recommend this book more!
I wish that I read this book instead of listening to it. It is read aloud on too quickly and just sounds constantly frantic. This doesn't make for a very enjoyable listen as the content is interesting but the rushed nature takes away from it entirely.
Motherhood is such an isolating feeling sometimes. You wonder if you are the only one experiencing these challenges. Time after time Giovanna spoke of the same thoughts, feelings and experiences I have gone through since becoming a Mom. I feel like a have a new Mom friend after listening to this book!
I could not stop listening. Tears, laughter, and comfort, this book is absolutely amazing.
Every young parents or parent to be should read this book. It was well stated full of humor dignity and maturity. I was amazed at how mature and realistic the author was about her life, her mother hood, and her body.
"Beautiful story from beginning to end!"
Absolutely wonderful!! What an inspiration to current and future mum's to embrace themselves and their children and all the squishy, messy, hilarious, adorable things that motherhood brings! Thank you Gi!
