Warning: Shock and outrage will grip you as you dive into this one-of-a-kind exposé. Shoddy science, sketchy politics, and shady special interests have shaped American Dietary recommendations - and destroyed our nation's health - over recent decades. The phrase "Death by Food Pyramid" isn't shock-value sensationalism, but the tragic consequence of following federal advice and corporate manipulation in pursuit of health.
In Death by Food Pyramid, Denise Minger exposes the forces that overrode common sense and solid science to launch a pyramid phenomenon that bled far beyond US borders to taint the eating habits of the entire developed world.
Minger explores how generations of flawed pyramids and plates endure as part of the national consciousness, and how the "one size fits all" diet mentality these icons convey pushes us deeper into the throes of obesity and disease. Regardless of whether you're an omnivore or vegan, research junkie or science-phobe, health novice or seasoned dieter, Death by Food Pyramid will reframe your understanding of nutrition science - and inspire you to take your health, and your future, into your own hands.

This book is well written and researched. The performance almost kept me from learning that. Everything is read with absolutely no empathy, absolutely dull and dreadful. The contents deserves better treatment. I really had to concentrate to not fall asleep through the entire book.
"Terrific material made taxing by poor narration"
I think the subject matter in this book is excellent. It's a well formulated discussion about how we should be thinking about the food we eat and absorbing information from others on that subject. I really think it should be required reading for anyone exploring the subject of health and diets.
However, the narrator of the book lacks qualities of professional narrators. The tone is very encyclopedic. For instance, humor is often read with identical tone and inflection as scientific terminology without any clear consciousness conveyed about the actual material. Basically, this will sound as if a male Siri were reading with a Midwestern accent.
No offense to the performer but I hope this is redone with a veteran audio book narrator.
"One of the best nutrition books out there"
I've read a LOT of books on nutrition and this one is definitely top 3. The Paleolithic cure and eat for health are the other two that were really good
"Just the type of in the middle skepticism we need"
There are too many widely biased books out there that fight to prove their specific diet is the best or there is a conspiracy theory with the usda. She avoids any type of fanaticism and teaches her reader how to also be objective and critical.
"Great information, horrible narration"
No. The research done for this book is great and the information is very well written. The narration however makes this audio book almost unlistenable. It it flat, there are no pauses between sections, and the sound quality is bad - it almost sounds like someone sitting in their kitchen.
The well done research.
A professional. I think this narrator is the authors dad.
"The narrator makes the book dry"
A dry voice
Too dry, prefer Denise Minger reading her own book
A little i like The information she did her research very well.
I wish there was an app to change the voice it's hard to listen to dry performance. Sorry David Minger I prefer another voice i wish theres an app for that or I rather listen to Denise Minger.
"Humorous look at history and science of nutition"
Not likely, simply because of the monotone narration.
Denise Minger's well-reasoned writing and her willingness to help people understand what she is conveying about nutrition and the science (or lack thereof) behind it was definitely breath of fresh air compared to other recent releases.
I'm sure the narrator is an intelligent and lovely person but, no.
"Book seems fine but needs a better reader"
I would suggest a professional actor for the next book, my wife and I could not listen to the book in the end.
Very informative and very educational. It is vital for you to listen to this book if you ever wondered why your not getting the results you want from the food you are consuming. Great Job Denise!!!!!!
"I am a fan"
Well written and well researched. Quirky and open minded.
If the narration could have been done by a young female voice, I think the satire and quirkiness would have came out better. You miss allot of the sharp edge due to the narration. Not a bad narrator, but not the right one for this book. For me, the content overcame the narration.
Keep an open mind.
Don't follow a diet. Think about what you eat and listen to your body.
"Can't stand the narrator"
I find myself disliking the great content of this book because of the narrator. His accent is very distracting and unattractive.
