This book (and the marketing that surrounds it!) promised a lot and for me, totally and utterly failed to deliver. None of the advice and tips felt realistic or anything i could use in my life. At times i felt talked down to and other times the advice felt silly. Very disappointed.
Straight to the point, informative, relatable and not condescending. I found this book extremely enlightening as I have suffered from anxiety and panic attacks for over 16 years. Book has given me the tools I need to build a new association with my fight or flight response.
Found the book really easy to relate to,have had anxiety since I was a teenager and Barry really knows what he's talking about,he breaks it down into simple and effective responsives of over coming the fear of anxiety,because that's all it is that's holding us back,highly recommend
I have listened to anxiety books before and have had CBT, I recently had a bad setback after going on holiday which threw me off guard and I was distraught, I thought I'd give DARE a go and it's really great. Similar messages as others but so good to hear the author writing from experience and some really key messages put across. Thank you, it's reassuring and I need to keep practicing, best wishes to everyone.
Maybe some people will like this and given by the positive reviews some must, but for me this was not helpful at all. I think if you have never read anything at all on anxiety or panic attacks and this is a new thing then this might be the book for you. Otherwise I fear you may be hearing the same things again and again.
This is the most thorough resource I have found. I have sought help through professional counseling and other anxiety programs. By far Barry McDonagh reveals in great detail what the root of anxiety is and how to treat it successfully. Many programs deal with the symptoms of anxiety but Barry reveals what the true cause is. I would recommend this book to anyone and everyone.

I purchased the audio book after having, yet another, panic attack. I was willing to try anything to get relief. Barry's suggestions are practical and effective. You will need to do your part and practice the techniques. I managed to get through another bought of anxiety with little resistance. Thank you Barry! There is hope!
It has been truly helpful. I was suffering from panic attacks for two months and I was getting to a point where I could not function in the morning. I got this book four days ago and not I'm beginning my recovery. I am functional again. The anxiety is still strong but I'm learning to cope with it better.

This is a must listen if you struggle from an anxiety disorder or have panic attacks. Barry has created the DARE response from personal experience and solid references to respected experts on the topic. If you are ready for a real acceptance based approach there is no better resource than this book. It has made a huge difference in my quality of life.
Barry reads this himself, and I think his accent and strong voice make it even better. I can't recommend this highly enough.
"Rehashed, but relevant"
Only if said friend hadn't read a single self-help book on the topic of anxiety. Otherwise, this book would be incredibly pointless.
The tips toward the end of the book; they outweigh everything said in the earlier portion of the book. I'd go so far as to say the DARE response itself is pointless when compared to them.
He played himself quite well, I'd imagine.
General indifference throughout the majority of this spiel, with some intermittent depression about the dullness of the DARE response. The health tips, however, evened things out.
Chapter 15 brought this book up from 1-2 stars to 3, for me. Most of this book is a rehashed version of ACT / MBCT (and even admits to this), but the 'supercharge' tips redeemed itself somewhat.
Buy this book, but skip to chapter 15, unless you know nothing about mindfulness / ACT / MBCT.
This book is for anyone who suffers or knows someone who suffers from anxiety! Mr. McDonogh's approach is the new trend setter for dealing with anxiety. Simply put, don't run from your fears or anxiety, hit it head on and defeat it!
For anyone who suffers from panic attacks and daily anxiety I HIGHLY RECOMMEND IT. Never in my life did I ever imagine being on a daily battle with anxiety. As a person who always played sports and was always an extremely social person and adventurer, anxiety struck me due to a scare I once had. This book has helped me so much that I will keep it forever.

Everything that was said in this book was right on the mark. He described the different anxieties we could be dealing with, but you didn't ever get the skills to resolve them. I was very surprised when I realized that was all there was. Up until that time I was totally into it.
