    "Snake Oil"

    There are a million and one self-help books on the market so everyone is trying to give their brand a new spin to get readers. This author has decided to rehash the old concept of positive thought with a splash of brain plasticity and 'quantum physics' (note the quotes). It is true, and proven, that positive thought can restructure the brain to a small extent, even in adults, but this isn't enough for Mr Dispenza. Instead, he introduces a woefully flawed take on quantum physics to suggest the mind can influence external events and not just on a quantum scale, but on a macro scale, and a significant one at this. This is the exact definition of magic. His daughter, he informs us, arranged her holiday in just this way.

    Quantum mechanics does not support ANY of Dispenza's assertions (you don't need to be a theoretical physicist to know this) and even if it did, the idea of macro external change through positive thought is utter bunk. Dispenza has simply tried to sciencify that appalling offering of ten years ago 'The Secret' in a hope that people are gullible enough to swallow anything as long as it has the word 'quantum' in it.

    My advice is save your credits and instead of buying this snake oil salesman's wares is to get your coat on and take a walk outside. That will do you far more good than this rubbish ever could.

    "Mind-blowing"

    I have bought so many books on self improvement and most have been interesting and informative and some have actually hit me with a change I wasn't expecting.
    I have listened to talks on youtube by Dr Dispenza and been riveted by his knowledge of the brain and it's functions, but it went no further than that. They say when the pupil is ready the teacher comes!! Wow, I was enthralled from the beginning to the end, so much of every I have inwardly inching towards, laid out for me to understand, eloquently and succinctly framed in such a that it flows.

    "Quantum misunderstanding"

    I couldn't listen to any more after working out that his basic premise was that the observer effect within Quantum mechanics lets you "effect things with your thought". - As Richard Feynman put it: "Nature does not know what you are looking at, and she behaves the way she is going to behave whether you bother to take down the data or not." - quote from the wikipedia page.

    It may well be that some of the meditation practices work just fine, but if you're going to spend a good few chapters telling me that I need to understand the Quantum physics of my brain, to then go and get it wrong when you explain it to me, I'm not going to listen to the rest of the book.

    "What the ... absolute rubbish"
    If this book wasn’t for you, who do you think might enjoy it more?

    Who would enjoy this book? I wouldn't know, apparently the guy is a success, so there are people out there who listen to this crud. Pontification taken to the extreme, repetition, over explain very simple ideas, but I had to get to the 'so what' point and it was NLP with a packaged 'meditation' approach. Please don't waste your time with this one. Read 'The Secret' which is basically the same book but with some fun idea of making a picture board.


    What will your next listen be?

    Some fiction and not read by an Australian. Having the pedantic message given in a drawl was at time painful, but he stayed on theme and read fully so got 2 stars rather than the 1 I felt like giving.


    What didn’t you like about Adam Boyce’s performance?

    Maybe the problem was the book's content, but I will check the nationality of the reader next time


    If you could play editor, what scene or scenes would you have cut from Breaking the Habit of Being Yourself?

    Distribute chapters 10, 11 and 12 to earlier into the book, not in sequence as they are the 'message', the rest is convincing you of the approach. And it might have felt less repetitive if reading and practical were mixed.

    This book cannot be listened to only as it refers to images, I bought this as a Kindle / Whispersync mix, is it needed.

    What made the experience of listening to Breaking the Habit of Being Yourself the most enjoyable?

    I had never heard of Dr Joe Dispenza, but somehow got attracted to this book. After just reading the first three chapters, I decided to research the author, and decided to book his three day workshop in London. Front row!!!. Can't wait. Well written, and very well narrated. I have bought the paperback version of all his books, and looking forward to reading them. A very big thank you to DR Joe Dispenza

    Breaking the Habit of Being Yourself is more than an instructional tool for change. Joe Dispenza has brilliantly articulated the science behind realizing long-term change through a spiritual awakening. If you've ever contemplated the scientific reality behind mediation, visualization, and positive affirmation, this is a must read. The author provides a cogent explanation of the physics that underpin our existence and ability to realize our unlimited potential, coupled with effective practices in the meditation and visualization processes.

    You are WAY too grown up (and profitable) to be NOT providing any and all charts, diagrams, pictures and supplemental material etc. for any such books that come with such mentioned items.
    These are INTEGRAL to many books.

    And I read a lot.
    Manifestation of dreams, changing your every day state, positive psychology in the right way, and even potential healing of body, bringing more awareness in your life, to feel more alive and happy. This book is huuuuuge. You have to buy it!!! The most full explanation of positive psychology, subconscious, imagination, meditation, body awareness, changing life and manifest your dreams, I've ever met so far.
